Kinda have a little story of my own.
I was going to the airport in Medford OR to get my mom, I was heading south on I-5 from Roseburg, OR. About 45 miles from Medford, kinda half way in between where I live and medford a gold Alero cuts me off and almost hits an 18 wheeler. I had my cruise set at 73 mph(speed is 65) and this Alero blew past me like nothing.
Well just down the road from where this happen I look in my rear view and see a cop(no lights on) coming up towards us, so I get over. At that point I was thinking he is gonna go get the asshole in the Alero, well the cop hits his lights than gets behind me! So I pull over. He comes up to the car and says "I figured I would pull you over because you almost hit that Alero that cut you off"....."CUT YOU OFF" are the key words here....he seen the whole thing! Than he goes, you know how fast you were going? I said "Yea, I had my cruise control set at 73 mph" and he goes "Nope, you were doing 81!, I am gonna go write your ticket"
So I am pissed as hell at this point...pissed like no other cause this guy is a total bastard. Well before he wrote my ticket he asked for my license insurance and registration. I had the truck MAYBE a week so I gave him the dealership papers(cause the reg hadnt come yet, or my insurance cards) and he goes "I haven't ever seen these papers before, I need your registration" so I nicely explained to him that I had just got the truck, and after he asked if my dad knew I was "Driving like I was" I very very nicely said "Its my truck, not my dads, look on the dealership papers"
So he goes back, wrights my ticket and hands it to me. So I than ask him "If I was doing 81, how did you get that number" He goes, I used a laser on you from the over pass(keep in mind the last over pass was about 4 miles back) and I was like, ok have a nice night.
Well on the Oregon tickets the officer has to check 1 of 3 boxes stating how they got your speed. There is a "Laser" "Radar" "Pace" boxes. He checked "Paced".
So I go down to the court house a few days later(which I was in another county when I got pulled over so it was a nice drive) and set up a court date. Well about 2 weeks before my date I get a letter in the mail stating that the ticket was dropped because the officer no longer worked for the state of Oregon.
I dug into the whole thing a little bit, turns out he was very well known for lieing about traffic stops so they cut his ass and got rid of em. I also found out that they would have dropped the ticket anyways because he said he got me on laser but marked pace, not only that but my sister was with me and was my witness to the whole damn thing.
P.s. If you didnt give the officer permission to search your car than he did it illegally. If I am correct(I believe I am) in the entire US they have to get permission from you to do it. They can look in with a flash light that is for thier safty, but to actually do a physical search they have to get permission. Unless you are being arrested for say DUI/DUII things like that.
