2nd map clamp is a go!

was cutting again this morning. s**** getting old. Its not boost cut though. the map clamp gets rid of that. its something else. I need a fuel pump.

welcome to my world !! all the power in the world ................useless !!
i had to drop my boost to 16psi. to stay away from the cut.

where is yours clamped? I didnt think you went low enough. I had to clamp mine at like 3.5v. I think thats like 15psi. If you went any higher than that, thats yours problem.

i had a buddy sitting in my car holding a volt meter, and we found that the car would cut at just over 4.1V . i set mine @ 4.0 and it was fine until the temp dropped to the 20's. i did turn it down a little more, about 3.9V with the same problem. we found 3.9V to be about 17psi. i dont think it is the map clamp. i can hold 19psi from 2500rpm to anout 5k with no cut. once i get the revs high, thats when it happens. before the map clamp as soon as i hit 18psi i would cut, even at like 3500 rpm.

What are uyour AFR's?

the afrs dont matter on this car. My car is running 10.8 afrs and still does this around 5k. The pump is loosing pressure in the high rpms. Must have something to do with the cams falling off or oilpressure in the head or something. I dont have the answer i just know that this is happening and that the pump fixed it. Crazy s***.

I had to clamp it at 3.7volts to get it to stop. So I just set it at 3.5 just to be safe.

s*** i wish i remember what cpe clamped theirs at. I believe it was 3.1-2. For some reason 3.12 sticks out in my head, thats was 13 psi.

Ill try that just for s****. 3.1 just to see what it does. There might be some corilation between boost pressure/rpm/fuel pressure, where the ecu gets involved. Who knows the car is finiky as s***.

cpe said the map has nothing to do with fuel or timing. They actually recommend turning it down to 10psi for people running 18 and having boost cut issues

hey i m looking to get a map clamp also.how do u kow what psi ur running with the clamp cause i dont have a tunner only aem a/f ratio gauge.amd im hiting the cut also when my turbo spikes.WOuld the dashhawk be a good tuner,or cp-e managment.

Bottom line, which map clamp do I get?

they all do the same thing. the one from ptp does look like it would be eaier to set to a voltage without doing crazy sprints down the street like i did. it is also 3X more $$ than i paid for mine though.

So, is the extra $40 worth it? Or can we just lenthen the wires on out own?

they are not all the same. they do the same thing with differnt parts. the one ptp sells is the ABSOLUTE BEST ON THE MARKET. John uses only the best parts and the test wire is a must. Makes if very very easy. We are talking about a piece that is hard wired into your ecu. I would only want the best.

At the risk of looking obtuse, you do need to also add some sort of aftermarket boost controller with this thing, correct?
So if we just assume from everybody else's results that the a/f ratios stay safe, this is a three device install.
The clamp.
Boost pressure controller.
Boost pressure gauge.

Correct?

correct, the map clamp is only there to prevent boost cut when you hit 18+psi. its just like a BCD only better.

quick question how is this "map clamp" different than a FCD ??
dont they both interupt the map signal to the ecu not allowing the voltage to go past a set point to trick the computer into not seeing the extra boost?? If they are different please tell me how, thanks

WTF? the fcd is electronic so how is yours mechanical if your cutting and splicing into wires and setting voltages??
