2nd gear stall?

Ok this is whats going on. I live in Georgia, it has been pretty cold here. 30's. Anyways on a cold start ill let the revs drop to around 1.2K before starting to drive. So as i do my first shift into 2nd and casually speed up a bit, nothing crazy at all, really lightly, it jerks hardcore. This just happens once or twice when I'm in 2nd gear lightly accelerating on start up. What could this be.

but its only happening, on cold starts and it happens just for a couple seconds. After the car is warmed up a bit, no problems at all

I have had similar problems as well. the car needs to warm up more. I live in a much colder climate, idaho. When its really cold, as in 15-20 below, if i let the clutch out immediately after starting the car it will die. you may also want to clean your MAF sensor. Its the most overlooked at part of the car. if its even a little dirty it will cause you some seriously jumpy acceleration.

Get some MAF cleaner from an auto parts store, ie autozone. its usually around 7-8 bucks. pull the MAF from the intake and spray the needle down on both sides. it dries in seconds. Whatever you do, do not touch the needle with your hands or any kind of cloth. the oil from your fingers will stick to it, creating problems. then put it back in. make sure you tighten it down all the way. one of my friends with an 07 speed 3 put an aftermarket cai on his, used the wrong screws to secure the MAF and had some SERIOUS problems!! it wasnt all the way in, when we checked the MAF it was black. any time he hit boost he got extreme boost cut. it wound send u to the windshield if you werent belted.

after you clean it you should notice much better idle and smoother acceleration. i sure did. but i live in Idaho and we have a lot of dirt roads lol. i clean mine every other oil change at a minimum. its quick easy, and well worth it.

Question? At what revs are you shifting out of first and into second? If you aren't reving up enough in 1st and shift into 2nd, you will stall the car.

Just sounds like you could be trying to baby it too much in unfamiliar cold weather. You shouldn't rev it real high, maybe 2.5-3k, and certainly not a lot of acceleration, but if you don't get above 2k, you could easily stall the car.

clutch friction material is also pretty cold and with a really grabby clutch in the MS3, you may need some more RPMs in the cold for the clutch to grab properly, causing the usual herky-jerky motions just like the "middle ground" clutch position where (with any manual trans) in first gear, it neither stalls, nor moves freely and fluently, giving you the hiccups....

Ok well I am shifting normally, around 2.5 to 3K. Its not the shift that is making the jerk. I shift into second have my foot completely off the clutch, and as I accelerate normally, just probably like 20% throttle or less, and it jerks. It feel like its going back and forth, Engine to Trunk movement. It feels like a harsh fuel cut, but its not.

Try warming up the engine for 5 minutes before driving it? My Si bucks a jerks on cold days and cold start ups, my MS3 did the same, s***, all my cars did that.
