245/40/18's + RX8 wheels

Frankly I'd like to know how big of an improvement 235 will make vs 225. Sure it can help in the corners, but by how much?

The lower sidewall height will improve cornering ability too, but at the expense of ride quality and poor-weather traction.

I'm still disappointed that Mazda went for such narrow tires on the Speed3 though.

Then the consensus here seems to be that RX-8 wheels + RX-8 tires (225/45R18) fits fine. It's when you start getting wider tires or shrinking the sidewalls that it's "at your own risk".

From what I see on Tire Rack, there's plenty of choices in that tire size. My biggest problem is that no one makes winter tires to fit the stock 215/45R18 tires. I'm thinking I may just buy a cheap set of 17" wheels and get dedicated snow tires for those.

honestly, getting the separate set is a WAY better decision in almost all ways. it actually costs less in the long run (no need to mount/remount 2x a year). i got my set for 850ish, and it makes life a lot easier. just be careful what rims you get, though, since the cheaper ones can bend very easily. i learned that lesson the hard way with Sport Edition F7's...=/

I have 245/18 on my 8 w/ 43+ offset and its also dropped 1.5" (teins) no rubbing problems for me. just put new rubber on them actually Goodyear Eagle F1 245/40/18.

ill tell you one thing tho, there is NO room for anything bigger in there i can not fit a finger anywhere around the tire...but there is no rubbing at all (1yr of driving) and plenty of nasty bump and pot holes. The car actually will scrape off a cross member before any rubbing.

The front tires however would probably rub when you went knock to knock, but i just put stock size up front.

I have camber issues withe front since its dropped? any one know where i can get plates?

i was looking into going with an 18x8 tenzo wheel, so my question is: what tire size and offset would be optimal? i definitely plan on lowering the car, at least on h&r springs, maybe even eibach sportlines. oh, and rolling the fenders is not a problem at all. thank you

After looking at these tires installed on the rims, I should have gone with the 235s... The inner edge of the rim protrudes farther than the tires...there is plenty of room for the 235s.

I went with Kumho MXs which generally run slightly wider than the other brands. They look great, but 235 would have been perfectly square and taken up the whole width of the rim.

My next size on these wheels will be 235...

235's vs 245's

The new 08 Audi A4 Cab with upgraded wheels uses an 18x8 rim with a 235/40-18 tire (Potenza R050a) - looks and fits perfect. I plan on getting that size in a Falken Aziena RT615 after the stockers were out on my RX-8 rims.

The 245 on a lowered car can rub from the post I have read. Not sure I want to roll the fenders.

Should look cool and handle a little better.

This is a good thread though I'd like to see more folks post what type of tire they're using.

Maybe there could be a sticky or official "These will fit w/o rolling" thread, where people can simply post Wheel size, offset, tire brand and size, suspenion and if they had to roll fenders or not.

When the WRX wagons started getting really popular, there were a lot of threads on various Subaru sites with topics just like this until someone finally compiled all the data into one thread titled something like "THe Official Wheels and tires that will fit the Wagon" thread.

I have no issues with the OEM TPMS sensors fitting the wheel and working with the ECU. It was a bit of a problem finding grommets that fit. I'm running 225/45s on mine with no contact issues. I suspect I could go to 235/45, but it'll be a long time before I need to address that. I expect these Yokohamas to last five years or so.
