225/45/17 Conti Extreme Contact DSWs: good tire for the stock mazda5 rims???????

Toyo's have about had it at 30,000 miles and i opted for the conti dsw's. Problem is they are back ordered at discount tire and it doesn't look like they will be getting any soon(in either 205/50 or 215/50/17). I had put in an order for the 215's, but they aren't appearing....sales rep at Discount said the 225's were a good fit....so they will be here Wed.
Anyone out there have any info good or bad on running 225/45/17's on the stock wheels???? I know the sidewall height is real close to the 205's and the speedometer will only be off about a quarter of a mile an hour from stock tire. I know they are about .80 wider than the 205's.....Thanks in advance for any info you can give me!!!

225/45R17 should not be fitted to wheels that are less than 7" wide. Your OEM wheel are only 6.5" wide. It might create some handling problem and most shop would not mount it if they know.

Thanks for your input!!! I have wondered about that, but man, theres almost a 1/4" of rim on both sides of the wheel rim exposed as it is when running a 205 tire....so if a 245 is .8in. wider, i am not pushing it much....i guess i will find out this Friday and report back...

You should be fine. They say it is a 6.5 inch wheel, but when measured it is a lot closer to 7 inches than it is 6.5.....

Tires installed by discount tire, no problem mounting with the 225's on stock rims...they had me in and out the door in 45 minutes...good:tires protect the rim, unbelievabe ride compared to the Toyos, cornering excellent as the Toyos, extremely quiet ride compared to the Toyos, Conti's feel like they are rolling easily(will check the mpg) and feel grippy. Bad:initial turn in a little softer, not lightening quick steering response like the Toyos....
Verdict: no brainer, i will not miss the rock like ride of the Toyos....

Could you post some pics of the tires on the rims? I'd love to see what they look like. I wish I had gone bigger than stock when I replaced our stock Toyos.

These are 215/55-16's on a 7 inch rim ( my winter tires)... awesome by the way!
