Mazda Protege5
Hi

Will 205/55/16's fit on my Protege5?

Stock wheels

I want to go slightly over sized and the extra weight carrying capabilities would be more important to me then ultimate handling

And there are a lot of used tire deals on Craigslist for that size

I would stay away from uses, I bought some on craigslist and they were garbage. one had a pin hole leak not visisble to the eye and more problems than I expected. I will only buy new. Just my 2cents.

I agree with the previous post about not buying used tires. That said, I recently put 205-55-16s on my mp5 and love the result. Most modders in here will shoot you in the head for doing it, but it drives real nice.

bam the way way back machine delivers ;)

Good mod - do it! I have the 205/45/16s and lowered it to close the wheel well gap. No rubs - just better handling! [grin]

i have 205/55/16's, just to forewarn u, the speed-o will be off a decent amount. I think when it says im going 55 im going closer to 60, just an fyi but nothing u cant control

look up nexen tires. The n3000 is extremely nice and soooo freakin cheap. I paid like 65 a pop for mineThey grip just as well in dry weather as my dunlop sp's and they are decent in wet weather, very quiet too.

I ONLY buy ebay tires (sometimes new, sometimes slightly used) for my BMW...

Looking for a new rear set soon, I've replaced the rears once before and the fronts just a few months ago, 0 problems with any of them...

I ran 205 55/ 16's last year during winter, they were nice on the road but the handling was to soft... now i know there were snows but still. They also scrubbed a bit

For winter I run 185/70R14 Michelin X-Ice

And i've saw a protege 5 with some 205/60R15 winter tire and there was almost no gap between the tire and the fender! crazy but i'm sure the person who owns the car managed to drive it all winter long!

I'm runing 205/55-16's on my stock P5. No rubbing or scrubbing going on. Definately doesn't handle the same, but drive is nice and smooth.

I was running those for a while i think im at a bigger tire. I dont remember the size off hand. damn things have been on for a while now.

I went to a H rated tire becuase of all the mileage I do

Hi

Just an update. I bought a set of Toyo Garit HT 205/55/16 snows off of Craigslist. Brought them to Sears (where I work) and was told the wouldn't fit. After a few hours of panic I decided to trust the list as many have run that size with no problem. Took them to a local tire place. Had them mounted and balanced. So far, so good. No rubbing or interference I'm aware of. I'll post in a few days on the handling difference, if discernible, but where these are H rated snows I don't expect them to handle badly. They are pleasantly quiet for snows.
