PHEV CX-90 need a different Trailer Hitch than the Standard?

Hi all! First time poster, my wife just leased a CX90 PHEV a few days ago and so far I think 'we' are very pleased. She does want a trailer hitch though, and the dealer wanted ~3K to install. I am plenty handy and have installed many trailer hitches.

My question is, does the PHEV require a different hitch than the standard 2025 CX90? I have found the Mazda (KMV6-V3-920B) for a few hundred bucks, but it doesn't show fitment on particular vehicles. Does anyone have experience installing a hitch on the 2025 CX90 PHEV?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I haven't gotten under it to assess the job yet, nor ordered any parts. Thank you kindly! Tim

Hi Tim!

From what I can tell searching various sources, it appears all versions of the CX-90 (up to this point) utilize the same physical hitch (despite varying towing related features and capacities).

That part number you found (KMV6-V3-920B) appears to be correct and the latest version.

Hopefully others can chime in here to confirm and share installation expereicenes...I would double check in any case and keep us updated!

Thank you Antoine, my wife contacted the dealership and came to the same conclusion. I appreciate your time and response. I will update this thread after install. Take care all.

The only issue with the trailer hitch I have been hearing about is once installed if you have the hands free kick to open tailgate that function stops working because the hitch blocks the radar signal.

Good to know, thanks for the heads up!

I did some searching and it appears the official Mazda Tow Hitch (KMV6-V3-920B) shouldn't block the kick-to-open feature. It may be an issue of kicking "technique" vs interference. Came across the following tips...

- Kick directly under the center of the bumper, not off to the side.

- Move your foot in a slow, straight motion and step back to allow the sensor to register.

- The key fob must be present for the feature to work.
