2018 CX-9 GT wrapped in Avery Dennison Carmine Red Vinyl - Progress Journal

[Captain McFunk]

So a little background -- My wife owns a 2018 CX-9 GT. This car is incredible, WAY better than I honestly expected a Mazda SUV to be. The car is genuinely a blast to drive, and I own a Hellcat Charger with 707hp, so that means alot coming from me! Anyways, my wife has always been OBSESSED with the bright red color that Mercedes has on their SUVs, but every car she purchases, they dont offer this color. Well I finally decided to try my hand at doing a full color change on a vehicle, and give her the color car of her dreams. I've used vinyl several times before on all of my vehicles, but never to this extent, and boy do I mean it when I say i have a new found respect for the people that do this day in and day out! It's a beast of a project by yourself! Anyways, here is my progress over about 2.5 days. I'll continue to work on it throughout this week to get it finished. Let me know if you have any questions at all about how the car comes apart! I'm more than happy to help where I can!

Thanks all! It should look killer with gloss black wheels to set it off. After photos to come in approximately a week! Only down to a few hours a day to work on it after work at night :/

I proposed exactly that, but she wanted red...i would've gone with the black to offset all the red, but hey, she gets what she wants haha!

Made some more progress on the rear of the vehicle, it's finally starting to come together. when I dissasemble the driver side, i'll take photos to put together a walkthrough on the door panel removal, door handle removal, etc. and post up in the DIY area (if there is one)

Mad respect for your craftsmanship! I know you mentioned about it being a Mercedes color but just curious; what makes it so different from the red that Mazda offers?

You're the man! There is indeed a DIY area (its the CX-9 How To section). Btw, I like that you blacked out the chrome strip on the liftgate. It makes it look more aggressive!

How did you learn to wrap? Just trial and error, or did you reference a guide of some sort?

I literally just taught myself using YouTube. I first started wrapping interior parts in a couple of my cars, then blacking out chrome on my cars, then did the stripes on my Hellcat, and now the full CX-9. A channel called CK Wraps has some awesome tutorials on youtube. he's pretty much my go to when i'm looking up how to do something. it's not necessarily hard, as it is just time consuming.

Finished front bumper last night! It looks incredible in my opinion. I have to put the trim back on the grille (it's going to be gloss black), then finish the driver fender, doors, quarter panel, and the roof/rear hatch spoiler. Then the stock wheels are going gloss black!
