2017 GT Test Drive Impressions

Deleted post, Kaps nailed it, exactly.

As far as bikes go, I just toss it in the back. A, single, road bike would fit and apparently the 2017 seats will fold all the way down and not wedge them into your lower back.

I dont know why I keep hearing 400 miles of range. I get 28 combined and the warning light comes on when my gas tank has 11.5 gallons of space. 11.5 times 28 is 322. If you are hitting 34.8 mpg then I can understand 400 miles range or 33.33 mpg for AWD since it has .5 gallons more capacity.
Maybe I never top up after filling up - I know folks here have added 1 to 2 gallons more after the pump stops. People running 2.0L manual might be getting 400 on the tank - not sure any FWD guy who is getting 400 unless they drive 52mph for a loooooooooooong time.

Not quite 400. But I get plenty of 360 - 380 tanks. Closer to 400 than 300.

Now city driving, yeah closer to 300 than 400.

I looked at that when I was at the dealer for the test drive and I couldn't tell by just looking if it would fit with the front wheel attached. My guess is the wheel would have to come off. I may take my bike this weekend and see if I can get it in. I really love my 1Up rack and want to keep using it so I don't put too much wear and tear on the cargo area and the rear seat backs. I would get the cargo tray, but still would prefer the rack. The hatch will open with it attached.

Per the 2016.5 and 2017 Owner's Manuals, the AWD gas tank capacity is listed as 15.3 gallons & the FWD is listed as 14.8 gallons.

Meaning if you are only filling 11.5 gallons, you had a reserve of 3.8 or 3.3 gallons. I know you don't generally want to run a tank dry, but it sounds like you should have been able to continue for another 50+ miles and still have more than 1 gallon in reserve.

The 2017 Owner's Manual states the low fuel light should come on with 2.3 US gallons remaining. The 2016.5 manual doesn't say exactly when it comes on.

I think for 16 or 16.5 it does a warning light based on Range and not fuel remaining. That would be my guess.
But still the light coming on so early has been a problem for me. I have had fillups where it asked me to fill 10.X gallons as well. Ridiculous - is this a Honda Fit?

I get the same basic thing. Light comes on when you are at 3 ticks. I will fill at 1-2 ticks. At times, gotten close to 390 but never actually hit 400.

Just thought about something else that may be a factor. Will the hatch open with my road bike attached to the 1UpUSA hitch rack in the tilted mode? Not sure how one would know this without testing, unless someone already has the same rack on a 2017. I've seen photos of first gens with hitch racks being able to open the hatch with the bike attached.
I'm 90% sure the hatch will clear with the bikes in tilted mode on a 1UpUsa bike rack. I sort of remember trying that once. However I have trouble putting the rack in tilted mode which is why I don't usually do that. If I'm going biking this weekend I will test it in tilted mode.

I am convinced that too many on this forum don't know how to merge. I am at a higher elevation and still I have no issues speeding up/merging/changing lanes on the highway/freeway. I have to slow myself down all the time when I am not paying attention.

Even if you slow down a bit, the engine is still near the peak torque band so there should be enough to accelerate comfortably if needed in order to merge

Thanks! So I assume you normally just remove the bikes to gain access to the cargo area?

Correct. Usually if I need to get stuff from the cargo area, I already have my bikes on the ground. I bring our helmet, gloves, water bottles in the car so I don't usually have a reason to open the cargo hatch.
