2017 CX-5 Power Liftgate question

Hi,

I want to replace the power struts for the regular ones. The price for this was just crazy...I tried just unplugging both struts but the power lock doesn't work.

So I presume I need to do something else to fix that...Maybe unplug one sensor, the module or make a bypass?

Does Mazda have a technical bulletin for that..?

Thank you!!

If what you are trying to do is possible then I would suggest getting a wiring diagram for the rear hatch area electricals for a vehicle without the lift motors. Comparing the two you will see the difference between "manual" and "powered" schematic. I think you may need a new controller module or perhaps just a bit of rewiring. I've seen mine when rustproofing but I am not sure, when motorized, what pulls the hatch down that last little bit - I do not believe it is the lift motors as they are on too steep an angle. There could be a ramped pawl internal to the latch and if so you would probably need a new "manual" style one. I too will go with gas charged lift cylinders when mine fail but I'll research the means and methods well before purchasing anything. To do or not to do, that is the question.
