2016 - Dealer wants to do oil flush!

Let me guess, put a $9 bottle of Chevron in gas tank then take for a test drive. Yup your 2016 fuel injectors and now clean and running well. Come back in 5000 miles for another cleaning.

Any dealer low enough to do that wouldn't even bother wasting the $$ on Techron because they know the injectors don't really need cleaning in the first place. They would just claim they had provided a service they didn't provide.

YES, It's Typical...

They wanted to do the following services in addition to the oil change:

- Oil Flush - $60
- Fuel Injector Cleaning - $260
- Re-Balance tires - $79
- Front-end Alignment - $99

And then asked:
Is this typical?

YES... very typical, as all dealerships (sales and service) try to nickle and dime the car buyer/owner as often as they can. A lot of what they want to do is uncalled for and a needless expense. Think of what happens to the unsuspecting senior citizen who's taken advantage of and doesn't know the difference.

My favorite dealer service rip-off is $100 for brake cleaning. Of course after you pay the $100 the brakes stop generating brake dust and stay clean forever. As irritating as this ridiculous upselling is, I've found that once I make it clear that the only routine maintenance I intend to pay for is exactly what the service manual recommends they tend to drop this spiel and save it for some one more gullible.

I'm one senior citizen who is an ex GM engineer. I've roasted Service Managers for trying to sell me stuff like this, or, not servicing my car properly..

Knowledge is power! Having a little bit of knowledge about your car, how it works, and what is needed to maintain it give you great power when the service department tries to pull bogus service recommendations out of their hat just to get extra bucks in the till.

You don't need to be an Engineer or scientist but, only smart enough to read your owners manual. Seems many new vehicle buyers aren't even smart enough to do that, so they get what they deserve in my opinion. Ed

My mother in law was one of those unknowing senior citizens and she was being ripped off. I recruited 3 guys from work based on there size. I was the little guy at 6'5 and 180lb. We went straight to the service manager. Each of us introduced our selves and shook his hand and smiled and said We just want you to know that I am a friend of ....... she is not alone. Same sentence 4 times. As he was answering we turned and left.

From then on, no more funny charges, a few freebies now and then.

It's annoying, but it's how they make their money. My dealer is one of those Mazda Golden Cup winners. Has very competent techs, and their service prices will rival that of independent shops. But every time I go in, the girl behind the desk asks me if I want the fuel injector service to help clean the intake valves. She doesn't know it's virtually useless on a DI engine, she's just told to mention it all the time. Can't really fault her for that, just doing her job. In the end, you just have to know what to say "no" to.

The Perfect Opportunity...

If she was a big (boobs2) (braindead blonde, the perfect comeback response would have been: "No. I've already had my main injector cleaned and lubricated today!" (wink) ... and then walk away with a great big smile on your face.

P.S. My wife tells me I have a weird sense of humor, but if the opportunity stares you in the face, grab it with both hands and... (uhm) never mind.
