Hello,

First these forums are great and many thanks on the awesome information.

I have been a long time Toyota and Honda owner. I love the 2016 CX5 GT / tech. I plan to take delivery tomorrow.

During the test drive I noticed a throbbing noise which they claim it was a flat spot in the tire and it was replaced. What other items should I check for? Any good tips?

Thanks!

That's entirely possible. They also sometimes forget to lower the tire pressure from it's very high shipping amount. I'd check that and all the fluid levels.

make sure you have your SD card for the navigation. Not unheard of for it be left out.

Other than that, like any new car, I would examine the paint as thoroughly as possible for any defects/scratches/chips etc. Was really close to buying a brand new Forester XT when I noticed a giant gouge in the hood. Made me skeptical of the whole thing.

Also make sure you have the latest firmware version for your navigation. Mine came with V51 and had to have it updated.

Also check that car is tracking straight and steering wheel is not shaking at speed. Previously, I had a new Honda which the wheel alignment was out right from the start. A competent dealer and pre-delivery inspection should pick up all these things which could cause by transportation.

My g/f just bought a 3 and I had them update it while filling out the paperwork. Took about 30 minutes and saved a trip back. I guess they don't bother updating vehicles in the lot - this should be part of the new owner prep I think...

Or caused by some aggressive test drivers who'd like to find out the suspension performance by hitting potholes and curbs.

Did the dealer replace all four tires? Have you made another test-drive on the same CX-5 after the tires got replaced? Personally I think it's suspicious as the maximum time a 2016 CX-5 sitting in a dealer's lot is 6 months. I have cars sitting much longer than that and had never developed "flat spot" in the tires.

If your dealer offers you "free oil change", make sure to ask what kind of oil they're using? You can always get Mazda recommended Mazda genuine Moly 0W-20 oil from dealer's parts department or ordered it through forum sponsor Med Center Mazda with excellent price.

Thanks guys for all the info. I picked the car today and it runs great. I am very impressed with it.

Yes I placed an order with Med Center for some odds and ends tonight.

Make sure to post a few photos in the Photo thread, I'd love to see a new GT!! :D

+1 on this. Fighting with my dealer and Mazda USA right now on this with mine.

Most car dealers will offer a free alignment IF there is evidence of pulling but, free only, if no evidence of rim or tire sidewall scuffing. This for the first 6 months or 6K miles or so. Ed

Firmware version

Also make sure you have the latest firmware version for your navigation. Mine came with V51 and had to have it updated.

What is the OS VERSION showing on your screen? Also is a fail safe version listed at the bottom of the screen and is it the sane as the one listed at the top of the screen?
Dealer is telling me they are having trouble with getting the update process to work on their computer system and I am trying to verify if I already have the update as I picked up my vehicle 7/31 ordered for me by dealer.
Any info will be appreciated!

You can do the update yourself if you're so inclined. I upgraded mine this morning before work. The process involves downloading two files, putting it on a USB, and running through some prompts on the screen. Not sure why your dealer will have problems on their end.
