2016 CX-9 Power Liftgate Module Replacement

Hi All, I have a 2016 CX-9 with power liftgate. Had the phantom battery drain which according to local Mazda dealership seems was a result of the module going faulty after ~7 years. I have a new module and will be having a friend help assist with replacing the power liftgate module. The liftgate seems to have three panels that are able to be opened. Does anyone know which of the these houses the liftgate module? Rather only open the necessary panel. Thanks in advance!!

Steering wheel is on the right.

You may want to bookmark the site as it seems to be a complete service manual for the TC body (2016-2023 CX-9). Although the site is based in Australia - and therefore right-hand drive - most, if not all items apply to the left-hand drive models.

Will do, thanks so much! Do you think the module is located on the same side of car regardless of right or left hand drive variants?

It most likely is on the same side. Car manufacturers will only make the necessary changes to their vehicles to accommodate LHD and RHD markets. All else should be the same to minimize manufacturing costs. And maximize profit.
