2016 CX-5 Spotted with a Facelift

found this today (dates from 2011) back when the Cx5 was only a concept... shows some of mazda's mid cycle updates that could/should have been there from the start:
(Notice the grill and headlights, the tail lights look like they where LED)
A few other features that would have been cool, are the glass roof, the drive modes (sport mode in gauge cluster), the interior lighting and the led strips in the fog light housings.

Yea, especially with the SRI I can hear the whistle under the right conditions, and it usually pe4aks as I shift. Sounds pretty cool lol.
To me, it looks like the other one is just wrapped in the foil more precisely. The fog lights are covered and also the grill is wrapped in. I bet it is silver UNDER the foil.

I cannot wait for good interior photos ... I did not expect they will keep the infotainment in place and I also cannot see HUD there. Maybe the cars do not have final interiors.
I'm hoping for the commander switch, more comfortable seats and I-eloop for even better gas mileage.
I totally agree - I can't wait for interior photos either. Although I suspect that the interior styling will look quite a bit like the Mazda6 from the one tiny peek into the interior that you can see from one of the photos.
I refused to buy present CX-5 with the outdated infotainment unit. It was a real deal breaker for me. I have been waiting for this facelift for almost a year and I will be waiting for one and a half years for my CX-5 by the time I finally get it. You can imagine how impatient I am starting to be.

Its not that big a deal. The CD player plays up to 180 MP3's without a flaw. The digital FM reception is sweet. The bluetooth music playing is pretty good. The restart flaw in the USB has been corrected in newer models (and can be fixed by replacing USB module in older models). The iphone/ipod problems persist. For me, the problems aren't that bad. You got MP3 CD/digital FM/Bluetooth to listen to music. Get the bose option and audio quality is good.

I don't want to diminish the concerns of others but for me it really hasn't been a big issue. This is just my opinion and understand others are frustrated.

Well, my early '15 Bluetooth still restarts at the beginning randomly, maybe I need my module replaced? But, yes, many owner complaints make it worse than it is in reality, IMO. I buy cars on how the engine, transmission, chassis, body, and over all feel works, not by a (replaceable) radio works. And with a subwoofer added, the Bose is outstanding.
If I recall correctly, I believe the Europeans have an active recall on the USB module, but US owners must have a broken USB before dealer will replace it for free. You would think US would get a recall at some point too. I assume a US owner could request USB module replacement for a price. You would think at some point the new USB module will surface in all new CX-5 models, if it has not already. This is my vague recollection of posts read on this forum regarding USB module. Anybody have any new info?
I have an early '15 as well and the Bluetooth is bizarrely hit or miss. I never use the USB for data, so I can't speak to that, but Bluetooth can go for days picking up where it left off, then decide to start over again after I've been out of the car for 5 minutes. Or sometimes it does that "don't talk to me I'm busy" thing while it loads "phone data" for several minutes, and sometimes it fires right up. I'm sure there's some sequence of events that accounts for this, but I have no idea what they are. If there's a module or an update or an incantation that could make the Bluetooth performance a little less of a crapshoot I'd like to know about it.

"Flawlessly"? I think that's the first I've heard on this forum. No 1-3 minute wait? Restarts a song where you stopped it last every time? Tell us your secret (popcorn)

Mazda is on the list of manufacturers that will support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so that would probably be the next thing when it comes to infotainments system for 2016 models.
Does somebody know how that would work? Would there be separate infotainment systems for CarPlay and Android Auto? I don’t see how this would make sense if you only have one compatible system in the car, in other words your infotainment system would either work with an Apple device or an Android device but not both.
Mine is now working flawlessly, after previously being a bit buggy. Nexus 4, and the positive changes came in a fairly recent Cyanogenmod nightly. I use Poweramp as the playback software. Connects in less than 30 seconds, and resumes from wherever Poweramp was set to.
The only infotainment two gripes I have is the IPod starting at the first song rather than where it left off and I can live with that.The other gripe is the Bose system is a bit of a disappointment.

As of the old infotainment ... I borrowed CX-5 from the dealer for whole day so I had some time to test it. The infotainment was quite a pain and definitely sub-par to systems I knew from other cars. Playing MP3s from USB had well known issues and I noticed BT connectivity problems. I also did not find a way how to dial someone from the phone contacts other than using voice control. Maybe, it is possible, IDK.
Now, I am really glad I waited. I got new but cheaper car to fill the gap and now I am waiting to order face lifted CX-5 when possible. It would be also easier to resell it after three years or so when I plan to renew again.
