2016 CX-5 Not running after timing chain job

2016 Mazda cx5 180k miles.
Ran amazing, would have trusted it to drive cross country but had developed a little rattle in the motor recently NO CODES ,ever.

Mechanic said it was a loose timing chain Drove it to mechanic, it never ran again after mechanic worked on it .

Had to have it towed to a different mechanic who kept it a month then said they didn’t want to deal with it .

Lastly , My boyfriend and his buddies are all mechanics and messed with it and nobody can figure it out
P0017 code , idles
like crap and then dies .
No signs of bent valves , they have been checked .
There was gas in the oil , changed it . Checked OCV and changed crank and cam sensors . Redid the timing 5x. What in the heck are we missing here !?

My guess is that when that 1st guy put the chain back on, the timing was off.
Usually, people put down markings before they remove the chain... so that timing remains the same when the chain is put back on.

If so, you need to bring it to people who can adjust timing.
Or/And, P0017 is about oil control valve (OCV) for the exhaust camshaft.
Might be related.

I'm not sure I'd have anyone tear into engine internals outside of a dealership.
Lesson learned. Dealership quote about made me cry , but would have been worth it in the long run .

we did check the OCV as that is what all our research led to and it was fine.
Timing has been put back on at least 5 times by a few different people , all of which have knowledge and they all swear it’s in time. I’m at such a loss . It’s been looked at by 6 different mechanics .

Sorry, this is such a mess for you!

It was the responsibility of the first mechanic to make sure your CX wasn't any worse off than when you brought it into him for work. Since he messed the car up so badly that it wouldn't run, I would have taken him to court over it.

Too late for that now since other's have worked on it.

Good luck.

Any of the mechanics have a Mazda M-MDS diagnostic tool available to read real time data?

Like a few before… I think something is still off with what initial mechanic didn’t with timing. Maybe it was a bad tensioner that is still in the motor that caused the initial slop as well?

Sorry, but you need to find a competent mechanic with the proper diagnostic tools. By this point, it isn't just about making sure all the dots and points are lined up correctly.
