2016 CX-5 Kayaking Question

:
2016 CX-5 Grand Touring AWD
I just bought the CX-5GT loaded including the OEM roof rails. I would like to know if anyone else is using the factory roof rails to haul Kayaks. I have Yakima J bars to install on the rails. My thought is to install the J bars as close to the outside as possible. Would love to hear from anyone on this. Also, where do you tie down the front of the kayaks?

You can try going back to the dealer and asking them where the tie downs are. I asked for them when I bought the car and showed the sales guy where they should be located in the trunk, the molded foam insert has spots for them. At first he said they didn't have them, but then I told him I know they should come with the car as it's what used to secure the vehicle during transport. 10min later I had both hooks sitting in front of me. You may not be able to get them, I was lucky I guess, but it's worth a shot at least.

There are no tiedowns for the bowlines. You'll have to use the towing eyelet in the front bumper. The other option is to install hood loops. Webbing loops with a grommet that installs under a fender bolt under the hood. They fold away hidden when not in use and are cheap. Yakima calls them Anchor Strap Kits. 1 pair/kit.

Most definitely get the cradles as close to the side of the car as possible. Why make it harder by putting them in the center?

Thanks rjdee. Just ordered them. Actually, I ordered the eyebolts only to find there is only one position on the front not two. The anchor straps are a much better solution.
