2014 vs 2016 CX-5

Hello All,
I am in the market for a compact SUV with the following attributes:

1. Great Fuel Economy
2. Manual Transmission
3. Enjoyable Driving Experience
4. High Driver Visibility
5. Budget Friendly

I am trying to decide whether to purchase a used 2014 CX-5 Sport or a new 2016 CX-5 Sport. I would love to hear from the experts if the 2016 version is worth buying new or if the 2014 is adequate.

Thanks

Calvin

Almost identical vehicles, I would buy either one.

Now some might chime in talking about how the 2016 has improved sound insulation or a slightly tweaked suspension but, make no mistake, taken on the whole, these are almost identical vehicles with different doo-dads tacked on.

No question in my mind the 2016 UK car is now worth buying in sport trim.
A 7" screen and a much improved exterior and interior, Mazda have taken the car more up market.

Definitely 2016 Face-lift model if your budget can stretch that far. There are a number of significant changes to the face-lift model (depending on trim level) - Interior quality, Infotainment system, seats, electric handbrake, headlights, sound insulation, suspension and more technology (some are not available in the US).

More importantly for the diesel, some serious issues that have supposedly been fixed in the face-lift version.

Changes to the exterior are mostly minor, except for the 19" Alloy wheels and LED headlights.

No diesel for Yankee Clavin lol. The new one is nice, infotainment is faster and much better quality, as is interior. However if you can save on a low mile 2014/15 you can have extra money for the aftermarket wheels, tune and other mods you want.

You could probably get a loaded 14 for the price of a 16. That's what I'm looking at. I really want a 16 but may not be able to swing it the level that I want. So I could still get my GT with HIDs for the price of a base new 16. And like Mike said, both cars will drive just about equal.

If "Enjoyable Driving Experience" includes the infotainment system then definitely go for the 2016 model... I upgraded from a 2015 model and am a lot happier.

The OP stated the desire for a Manual Sport. Unfortunately, that negates any benefit of the '16 regarding infotainment. Mazda doesn't even offer a backup camera for the '16 manual Sport, much less infotainment.
I did think the 2016 MT-6 was quieter then 2015 MT-6 during test drives.

Not sure if this is a factor to you, but i've test driven both models last week within a few mins of each other, and what i immediately notice is how much quieter the 2016 model is compared to the 2014. The additional insulation really does make a diff.
