2014 Engine Options...Article From Yesterday

For me, a diesel is like a hybrid but with stones. ...

Yes, I do see what you mean. Unfortunately they also need a DPF (with the initial costs and maintenance costs and issues associated with) and many have urea treatment tanks requiring refill in order to run clean. No free lunch, but for high mileage drivers payback is reasonable.

I will seriously consider the diesel, once Mazda shows ownership and fixes its rising oil issue.
Price-wise, will have to wait and see. I believe the order from low to high prices is gas < hybrid < diesel < plug-in / fully-electric.
While I think diesels can be made to match hybrid in cost-per-mile, it is still remain to be proven. Plug-in can definitely out-perform diesel in cost-per-mile, except in long range, where it can only match it.

in Canada Diesel is cheaper than regular gas...

same as in europe. probably more accurate to say diesel gets taxed less than petrol! Europe taxes the everloving piss out of standard petrol, so diesel (artificially) makes a lot of sense. Id probably drive a diesel if that were the case here.

Has anyone heard when the 2.5L is going to be available? I'm chomping at the bit to get something new and our baby is due in the middle of February. Just wondering if we'll be able to get one before then or not........I'm guessing "no."

Rumor has been January, my guess is sometime shortly after the new 6 goes on sale. If anyone knows of something official please chime in.

A better question might be how soon can one be ordered since I think the 2.5L will sell even quicker than the current models and it doesn't sound like you can wait until one is just sitting on the lot.

In the same boat, as much as I want to pull the trigger on one now I am staying put for now waiting on the 2.5L or Diesel.

Ditto for me. I have an 01' CRV with 140 hp which does fine on flat surfaces but strains mightily on freeway upgrades. Just wanT that extra margin of power in those certain situations. For me, it is worth the wait for the 2.5L engine knowing it would have scored even higher in the SUV comparisons with it. Not ready for the diesel, however.
