I've seen here where the 2015 models are out soon, but I'll probably be looking at the late year 2014's -- here described as 2014.5.

I've seen where the shift lever now has a leather boot around it or something, and there may have been some other very minor mods from 2014 to 2014.5. But is there any other way to tell them apart besides the shift lever boot -- VIN number differences, etc.? And what MFG date should I be looking for on this 2014.5?

I think you should be looking for a manufacturing date after October 2013; therefore November 2013 or later. As far as I know, this manufacturing date incorporates all of the changes before the change to 2015 model year (ie. shift boot, safety upgrade, etc.).

(iagree) ...and the VIN # seems to vary with different trim levels so the easy way is to look at the date of mfg. & shift lever. If it's an automatic with a leather shift boot, it's a late 2014 (.5) which will have other upgrades, including some suspension tweaks to improve noise, vibration & harshness (NVH).
