2013 Mazda5 L4 engine maintenance 67k

Greetings,
I just bought a mazda5 and it has the L4 2.5 engine in it. The one previous owner seems to have all of the regular servicing done. He mentioned Coolant flush, oil changes with 0-20 every 7k miles. Filters are clean and recent.

What should I look at servicing on this motor? I plan on driving this for at least 5 years and I want to get the best fuel mileage I can get. I plan on replacing the plugs with NGK or Bosch iridium from rock auto. Seems like the serpentine belt is in good shape, I might just buy one because they are cheap to replace.

What is the transmission model number? I have read in the mazda 5 sub that this is the same transmission that was in Ford Focus. Transmission fluid looks somewhat clean, it’s translucent but dark, not black. So I would guess it has been changed before. I’ll look into changing that in the spring.

One minor problem I noticed is that there’s some kind of engine vibration when it’s in drive and you are stopped with foot on the brake. What exactly causes this problem? Clean MAF?

I used to have the 2.3 duratec in a ford ranger I had and it’s an easy motor to service. I did a lot of research and I bought this combo as they next year was the skyactiv motor. It got better fuel mileage but I wanted the reliability and simplicity of this old style motor. That being said I will switch from 0w20 to 5w20. I have never seen much of a difference in fuel mileage only in oil cost.

Thanks for the advice

The reason you can get 5W-20 cheaper than 0W-20 is that 0W-20 is necessarily synthetic whereas 5W-20 can be a blend. 5W-20 should still be fine; just make sure you stick to quality brands and don’t overextend your oil change intervals.

I was at Costco a few weeks ago and I see that 0w20 (Kirkland brand) is cheaper than the 5w20 Mobil one. Most of these oils in quality are the same to me. $3.89 a quart is cheap and that’s 0w20. I always buy oil in bulk to save money. I’ll be buying the Costco 0w20 unless I find something else comparable that is cheaper but I don’t think I’m getting any cheaper than that. The savings on oil alone basically pay for my membership.
