2013 CX-5 Wonky Intermittent Wipers

The intermittent wiper settings on my 2013 CX-5 have developed a mind of its own. The slow and fast speeds work but when I turn the stalk to one of the intermittent speeds, the wipers do not pause in between swipes. They do turn on and they swipe at a fast speed.

Any suggestions on what I can do? I don’t think my car has a rain sensor. This is the first gen and not the top trim.

It’s been raining down here all week and finally drove the CX-5 in the rain. With the intermittent wipers set on the lowest setting, it stats of with a pause in between strokes but then after a couple of minutes the strokes are continuous.
