2013 cx-5 low frequency booming noise ?

I agree 100%... if it is FWD, your are most likely fine with your odd tire setup, it just makes me scratch my head how it happened, and is not optimal...

There are also times when you can have loose plastic shielding under the car, and it can vibrate or resonate at speeds... The whole underside of the car is an assortment of different shields to make aerodynamic...

I am assuming that whoever sold the car switched the tires before they sold it and that's the reason why I have a different set of tires. Maybe the seller thought the original tires were better quality and decided to keep them because people care more about mechanical issues I guess.
Yeah... maybe I have some loose parts or shields that could cause the noise. Well, it seems like there are just too many possibilities to find out problems when it comes to car. I think I am going to get a new car next time if I ever decide to sell my cx-5 and definitely not with the first model year.

Does this happen to you too below 2000 RPM, when the the engine is lugging? That's what I would guess. Some amount of low frequency noise is expected and normal, but should not be too loud. Is the frequency of the noise (not amplitude) dependent at all at the speed or engine RPM? If not, then I would not suspect tires or bearings.
Mine does make some sound but it is not at all harsh or difficult to experience. However, some people are more sensitive than others ... would you say you are more sensitive?
You might want to ask your dealer to do a test drive with you and make them lug the vehicle, or follow your instruction for reproduction.

Used CX-5? Booming noise? Are you sure the previous owner didn't install a subwoofer hidden in the back?

YES!!! While I was driving today, I have found out that I always hear the "low frequency booming noise" around 1500rpm. No matter what I do with the car, speed up or slow down, whenever the rpm gauge needle hits the 1500 rpm range, the car just start making that noise. I don't think it has to do with tires, bearings, etc.

Then what is causing the noise at that particular rpm and why? I hope someone knows how to solve this issue since it is pretty clear that the noise has to do with certain rpm in my opinion.

So any CX-5 will make some noise like that when the engine is at about 1500 RPM in high gear (>= 5) and under moderate load.
The noise's frequency is directly related to the RPM @1500 is 1500/60 = 25 Hz, which is very low bass frequency. However, the intensity of the noise is because the engine is having a hard time providing enough torque at this RPM, where most ICE engines can produce less torque than they can in higher RPMs.
If you will increase RPM, the engine will produce more torque such that it can easily overcome the same load, reducing noise intensity an increasing frequency.

The main question is if something is wrong with your vehicle, compared to other CX-5s. It is possible that nothing is wrong and you are just sensitive to the noise more than other people. Like I said above, I don't find the noise objectionable at all in my car.
It is also possible that something *is* wrong with yours and it produces excessive noise, e.g. some part of the exhaust system is broken. That's what you need to find out.

Yeah.. there might be something wrong with my car. I don't disagree with that. I don't know if I am too sensitive to sound/noise but the noise is not something I can ignore if I want to because it is very noticeable and pretty loud. There is another cx-5 owner who has similar issue (post #18). Maybe his/her car could be something wrong as well. As for the exhaust system, I recently visited a local dealership for the 45000 service and Exhaust System(leaks, visible damage, loose parts) was marked in green circle out of red, yellow, green on the service report paper. But it still is possible that they did the inspection as a mere formality especially if they were busy.

I just hope this noise can be fixed with some simple remedy without braking the bank.

Test drive another CX-5 at the dealership to compare. If the difference is noticeable inform them of your findings.

FYI, my Mazda6 was hit from behind a few months ago and I had a repair shop replace the bumper and correct the exhaust alignment. I compared its underside to other Mazdas and they look identical in terms of form and finish. My Mazda dealership has a display car lifted as seen in this 360 degree view.
