2012 vs 2010 and rear door sun shades.

Does anyone know if the interior of the rear doors on the 2012 are the same as the 2010? I know the exterior metal is different so I wouldn't have thought so, but I got a ride in the 2012 dealer shuttle this morning and the doors look identical from the inside, same handles, switches, everything...

The reason I ask is that on the mazda.ca website if you go to build and price here: configure a 2012 Mazda5, and go to the accessories step it shows rear door sun shades (for $202 CAD).

I really want a set of these and I'm curious if they'll fit my 2010 (they're not listed as an accessory for the 2010)

I'd get sun shades even with tinted windows for sleeping kids. I consider tinting windows a privacy thing. It reduces solar light but the sun is bright.

I wonder if these things may be integrated into the door? Perhaps the '12 doors have an insert to accept these shades that our gens don't.

You could go JDM and put in window curtains like you see in those RHD imported Mitsubishi Delicas and Toyota Hi-Aces.

What are they? It lists that the price includes installation.

$200 will tint all the windows.

I plan on tinting the windows as well, the shades are removable, and since I don't plan on doing limo tint this seems to be the best combo for keeping the sun off the kids.

I didn't notice anything on the 2012 this morning, I took a good look at the window, the door literally looks identical from the inside, no track or anything.

I'm going to talk to the parts guy at the dealership when I go to pick the car up this afternoon and I'll see if they've got any in stock. I'd imagine I could always return them if they don't fit.

$200 for a sun shade seems excessive. Being removable isn't convenient unless it stores compactly.

Tinting the windows was the first thing I did to ours, even turning the vehicle over to my wife. And yes, we still have the pair of $5 collapsible stick-on shades from Wally-World. The only problem with stick-on is you can't let down the window, but unless this things mounts or something, you probably won't be able to either as the wind will just blow it out of place.

It's all custom and manually operated, he could be the only one in North America to install curtains in his 5. Curtains are common in older Asian multi people movers. Mitsubishi Delicas are hugely popular in Canada, we import these cars from Japan by the boat load, many of them have curtains. Cars in the 1996 model year have just become eligible to be imported to Canada, I'm starting to see less curtains in these.

Walmart sells static cling sun shade (easily removable if you run into legal problems). Apply one or two (cut to window) on 'top' of your existing tint and it become limo black from the outside but still visible when looking outside. Did this to my other car's passenger windows to keep bring sun light out of napping kid’s eyes. Think of it as double tinting. Works good for me and will be doing the same to the M5, especially the back two windows to keep cargo private.

Just took a look at those since you mentioned them... think they're $200 because they're dealer installed, but the actual part is probably much cheaper. Looking at the picture it's hard to tell how they are held on. It kinda looks like they just clip over the window (dealer installed!! ha!)... but check out this UK Mazda parts site, it shows that they also come with a shade for the small rear window. Again, hard to tell how it's attached... http://www.partsmazda.co.uk/product-info/m5rslidingblind

I think I may just order a set, because I hate deeply tinted windows (like having the natural light in the car), but have 4 month old twin boys and could really use some better window shades for the upcoming summer.
