2012 GT AWD CX-9 vibration

Good morning

I bought my CX-9 in November 2012 absolutely love it, perfect vehicle for my family. However I seem to be coming to a stage of minor and annoying issues. Travelling 80 km/h + I have a random vibration in the front end as I feel it in the steering wheel, I have had OEM 20's balanced 3 times steel 19" with blizzak balanced 3 times and 22" chromes balanced twice and all have this issues obviously the 22's are worse. The problem is one day it could be perfectly fine the next absolutely annoying. the dealer first stated it was the after-market rims so now on OEM still the same but I have owned 5 vehicles before this all with up-sized wheels and tires have never had an issue and this also does it with OEM so any suggestions?


I bought it brand new off the showroom floor so am now in the stage where the interior lights are going one at a time the proximity key is dead the rear drivetrain seems to clunk when reverse to forward periodically are these normal issues also ?

I had a similar vibration problem with my 2007 Ford Expedition. Anything above 65mph would bring on significant vibration through the steering wheel. It was also intermittent, didn't happen most of the time in the first 20-30k miles, but it definitely did it occasionally. Replaced the factory wheels in attempt to fix, which was a mistake because then the dealer would never even attempt to fix the problem, they just automatically blamed the aftermarket equipment. Just before I traded it in for my CX-9, several posts had come up on the Ford Forum recommending to have the dealer check the steering linkage and some other related components. You might want to pursue that route with yours as well, good luck... I know how frustrating that can be!

long story short, after having parts replaced, and it still didn't go away, it kind of gradually went away on its own. i think it had to do with a combination of factors including worn/bent suspension components and a out of round tire; all these things caused some odd tire wear that once fixed took some time to even out.

here is a weird thing i learned: vibrations that are felt in the steering wheel can sometimes be traced back to the rear of the vehicle... there are just so many possibilities the best advice i would say is to start with the most common and least expensive fixes first.

balancing (road force preferred; properly done), alignment, wheels, rotors, pads, steering components examined, hubs, shocks, bushings... basically work from the farthest components out and move in. generally the farther you go in the more expensive...

times like these is when a really good mechanic becomes worth the price you pay.

so after driving the rear started to clunk when going into gear replaced the rear differential still vibration at hwy speeds though ..

What kind of machine is balancing your wheels? Anything less than a Hunter Roadforce balancer will only get you a good balance up to 60 to 65mph, and will shake on the interstate. Makes a HUGE difference.
