2011 CX-9 No Headlight Warning Chime

I'm hoping someone here can help me find a definitive answer to this.

We recently purchased a used 2011 CX-9 Touring. Within the first month our battery died. Turns out there has been no chime to alert us that our lights have been left on. With a 2 year old in the car, I tend to be a little distracted when exiting the vehicle, so the lights were left on repeatedly.

We took the vehicle to our local Mazda dealer to take a look. They just informed us that the vehicle has no headlight warning chime. WHAT? A vehicle in 2011 that doesn't have a simple chime to remind you that you left your lights on? And the top model in their lineup. Granted it is not the Grand Touring, but we have a 2004 bottom of the line 6 wagon that has a chime.

When I asked if there was any option we could add to turn them off automatically or to add the chime, I was told no...there is nothing that can be done.

Is it just me or does that sound crazy?

Thanks for any feedback/info.

Not sure this will help you as I have a 2007 and things have been changed:

I find the headlight (HL) warning chime annoying on mine. Yes the 2007 has one. It goes off when the HL are on manual and when in auto turn-off mode. It bugs the hell out of me that the vehicle dings to tell me my HLs are on when in auto mode. Like no sh*t Sherlock, they will auto-shut off. This was fixed in later models as it was a noted annoyance.

What I Do know for my model:

regardless if the HLs are in auto or manual mode, they will automatically turn themselves off after a set time, therefore they will not drain the battery. What you might actually be experiencing is a bad battery. I know you have a new model, but it is not unheard of for a new battery to have a bad or shorted cell. Take your battery to an AutoZone, or an equivalent store, and have them run a check on it for you. Let us know what you find out. Also check your manual to see if your model automatically shuts the lights off after a specified time. If so then the mechanics justification for your dead battery is unfounded.

I have a touring model 2007 and i have the chime and it shuts off automatically after about 2 minutes. When i restart the car the lights come back on. Is this the auto feature?

"Auto-off" is a standard feature on touring model of 2012.
Not sure about 2011.
"Auto-on/off w/ HID headlights" is a standard feature of GT. Not an option on other models.
Oh, it shuts off in 30 secs, same as accessory power.

I have 2008 GT with standard halogeen headlights (that's how we got it here!),
no matter on which setting I set it, the lights will go off after around 60 sec from turning off the ignition..
