I blew one of the factory speakers within a month after getting my car
This wonderful forum had the best information and advice, what little there was.
One of the Geek Squad installers at Best Buy offered to take the door panels off and figure out what could be done. It's shocking how bad the Mazda 6x8 factory speakers are! This installer recommended 6.5" speakers since that's the most common size that'd actually fit and would sound better than an oval shaped speaker. Here's what I chose:
Polk 6.5" DXi 6500 - Front doors
Polk 6.5" DXi 650 - Rear doors
Polk PA 660 - 4-channel 600W amp
Best Buy had a deal where you could buy 3 Polk products and get $150 off, so those 3 came to $350. That's around what I was seeing online, but I'm sure you could find each cheaper if you search around.
You can thank Geek Squad for taking all the pictures. I hope it helps anyone that's thinking of undertaking this project.
