2010 Mazda 5 Sport Vs Touring (which one should I buy)?

you can get a module that will let them work... for additional money....

The adapter is $70 through Cructchfield (for Sony or Jensen head units) though I assume that you can pay less on eBay.

And here is what you can get for $200 (not including $70 for the steering wheel control):

Built in iPod adapter (you can control the iPod through the radio), you can play CD-Rs loaded with .mp3s, have flash drives with .mp3s plugged into the front, etc etc.

Hey guys, thanks so much for helping me out as I'm going to make a purchase pretty soon I think.....

So I went to a dealership the other day in Philadelphia, and basically they told me:

1. They wouldn't support adding in HID headlights to a Mazda 5 Sport. But I thought some dealerships would do that (as I've called in and they said they would but was surprised this one didn't), and I guess I need to check around some more

2. Said that what I want to do is almost like buying a Touring, ie: the Touring already has the LED tail lights and the fog lights and they didn't have any Sports in stock.

3. Quoted me a Touring for a final price (before TTL) of $19,200

Kinda curious...is this a good walk away price for a Touring? According to truecar.com it is (less than $19,300), but I don't know if I completely trust truecar.com as of yet.

Would love to hear your further thoughts on this... :)

What dealer did you go to? This is their quote so wait a bit and they will call back. In 2 more months all 2010s will be consider last years model (depreciate ~1K value) so they will be trying to get rid of all 2010 inventory.

Personally, I think $3500 off MSRP is a good ball park to shoot for; $4000 off being a very good deal if you are buying in 2010. PA has 7% tax so see if you can get it for sub $20K out the door. You should check dealers a bit farther to get a better deal. My benchmark from what I've seen online is low $17.x for a Sport with Auto (out the door) so with the Toruing cost ~2K more, I say $19.x ball park sounds right.

1) You should confirm with the deals if they are swapping the halogen headlights for HID headlights, which would cost you a pretty penny. Installing an aftermarket plug and play HID kit is easy and cheap enough to do yourself.
2) I guess people are picking up the Sports since they are they best bang for the buck. I wonder if any dealers have a manual Sport left :p
3) See above.

That sounds like a good price to me. i would negotiate a final price, everything included though. 19xxx sounds good until you add taxes and such.

i got my 08 touring brand new for 21000 out the door. no trade in. granted... it was right before the economy took a crap. literally... 2 months later and i could have gotten 0% financing and probably a 1000 bucks better deal.

also, installing the factory HIDs isnt that easy. it is replacing the whole headlight assembly. it might even be different switches inside. dont the factory HIDs have the auto on switch. i can see that being an expensive deal.

Silentnoise713: i'll let the guilty remain nameless. :)

He (the sales guy) was pretty rude after he realized that I wouldn't buy it that day, didn't even say good bye or anything, but oh well, it's how it is i guess.....

Rockin: yeah i'm thinking it'll be 20.5 to 21K out of the door for me if we go with the Touring right now.

Maybe i shouldn't get too hung up on the HID's for now. As mentioned, each dealer i've spoken to about this says that it pretty much voids their warranty if I get it installed on my own and I don't want to spend the extra cash for the Grand Touring just to get it. It's like a circular battle here with no end in sight heh....

quick update...

Guys thanks again for all of the advice and help on this forum!

I FINALLY purchased a 2010 Mazda 5 Touring over the weekend (Stormy Blue Mica) and love it!!!

Very smooth ride and fits great in tight parking spots where I live!

:)

stormy blue ftw!

did you get a good deal on it? they should be going for pretty cheap soon, with all the 2012 stuff going on.

Based on some of the #'s thrown around here, it seemed that 19.2K (offer I got from another dealer) was a great number and truecar.com was saying it was quite good as well. I wanted to go sub 18.5K as the final price, but met serious resistance. I did mention the 2012 model and that we're at the end of the year, etc...

We settled at 18.9K after some serious haggling in regards to my trade in ....

but I got the absolute max value for my trade in (from checking all of the websites) which brought the out the door number down a lot.... so I guess both sides were happy enough and I have a new car now that I love driving.

:)

not too bad considering i got my 2008 touring for around 21K. (no trade in, was one of 4 on the lot, and all were sold in 2 days) it was before the stock market took a dump though. only 5 months later and they were asking people to buy cars. oh well.

hehe...looking back a page, you were the one that said 19K was a good number to shoot for. so thanks again as it matched what a lot of ppl were saying that I spoke to.

i think i definitely need a backup camera of some sort now as i'm not used to driving a tad higher up, so that's my next purchase.

will get one of those wireless ones and hooks up to the brake light so I don't run any one over accidently. :)
