The drivers side sliding door on my 2010 Mazda 5 would not open. The exterior handle would only pull out about half the normal distance. The interior manual sliding door lock/unlock mechanism would only slide to the unlock side about half of the way. Both the interior and exterior handles would move freely, but only half the normal distance.

At first I didn't know how to begin. Then I found the following post on this website:
http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123761729-Sliding-Door-Lock-Actuator-Replacement
It was a tremendous help to show me how to begin to get the door panel off. I recommend reading that article.

I took pictures. I found some irregularities in the drivers side sliding door. I can't describe them very well in text.
In the end, I gently manipulated some cables while trying the two handles.
I think God helped me because I'm not exactly sure what I did to get it right again.
I did notice some things and I tried to point them out in the photos I took.

Why not just take it into the dealer?? a 2010 should still be under warranty!

Since this is part of bumper-to-bumper coverage, I have a feeling the OP has exceeded the whichever comes first clause (36K) ;). I hope I'm wrong as the OP did take a lot of effort to document things though the solution is not all that clear cut. Sounds like, if all else fails give it a good kick (I do that sometimes)!
