Soooo anyone of us who are into cars in general know that the 09 up WRX's got more power over the previous models. Subaru Claims 265 hp from its boxer Engine. When the 09 WRX came out it was actrully beating the 305 hp Sti on some 0-60 and even 1/4 mile runs...so this news isnt new, alot of us know this. And im not doing a wrx is better than sti type thing either, so lets get that out of the way. I just went to Cobbs website and pulled thier dyno-database up to look at some stock whp pulls from both cars, now there was alot of modded dyno's but I only looked for the stock baseline #'s and heres what I got.

2009 WRX
Car#1 241 whp
Car#2 233 whp
Car#3 244 whp

2008-10 STI
Car#1 233 whp
Car#2 243 whp
Car#3 228 whp
Car#4 226 whp

If the STI is pushing 305 bhp, then Logic tells me that Subaru has under-rated the WRX 265 bhp by alot. Just a observation and figure I would share it with my fellow mazda gearheads :)

Were the WRX's and STI's customer cars or Cobb's personal testing cars? They all could have been broken in different too. But either way, I bet the STI handles better.

Think one of the cars was a Cobb car, rest was customer cars. If you go to Cobb's website and then the dyno database, all the information regarding dyno pulls are there. And yes you could be correct on how each car gets broken in, but still you got several cars of both types pulling in about the same #'s..Also look at stage 2 STI'S and stage 2 09+ WRX'S..there also around the same 290-300 whp. My opinion is that the 09 wrx is much closer in power to the STI than the 265 bhp Subaru claims. Also yes...the STI has better handling,Bremo Brakes, a nice 6speed tranny..Im just pointing out pure power.

Also found this teaser pic- Looks like well be getting a STI Sedan back for 2011?....................

Not necessarily, the body lines still pretty much match with the current STI, but with teh wing sitting on the bottom of the window.

Much like the WRC car:

Very true, and they were talking about that over on the sti forums, Insideline has a high resolution pic, and with closer examination it appears more "sedan"..But your guess is as good as mine, Subaru representive smirked and grined about a sedan commning back in 2011..so its all wild ass guesses...Guess we will have to wait for few days on the New York Auto Show...I would "hope" and "assume"...that with the wrx getting more power, and now a more aggressive stance....The new STI might get a jump in power or lighter or both. The WRX is surly getting little tweaks from Subaru, The VF52 turbo that is in the 09+ models is a big reason why the power is up there with the STI. Now you got wide body looks to go with that. WRX owners do complain that the car is in a huge need of a 6 speed tranny, I tend to Agree. I have driven one and it needs another gear....back to the baseline dyno numbers, along with stage 2=turboback exhaust+intake+tune....thier current numbers are almost exactly the same, Heck..even if you look at big turbo setups like DOM. 3.0 the Sti and current Wrx are making around same power 350-380 whp 17-20 psi tunes. These cars are close in power!

Yeah the more I stare at my own post comparing the two I am leaning more towards the sedan. The back window seems to slope down more than the hatch would and starts to slope down sooner.

I am actually liked the hatch STI but we'll see what happens.

Ya the power output is very similar between the two, but the tranny is where its at with the STI. The extra beef in the driveline makes up the extra money when you compare the two.

and the active center diff
Yes that Makes a difference.

Yeah the STI tranny is very nice, Subaru Gurus say its good for 600 hp, and its pretty smooth shifting too. And having the extra strentgh in the drivetrain will help out alot when your upping the power.

hmm...wonder if they'd offer the sti line in both sedan and hatch. that would be extra win on their part.

i still wonder if the ms3 was offered in the sedan if woulda gotten that instead. before the ms3 i didn't realize how amazingly practicle a hatch was...and i was one of those ppl who told my wife she had permission to kill me if i ever wanted to get a minivan, station wagon, or lincoln

you have this loong hood, then the car just stops right after the rear window, car doesnt look balanced

looks too short, trunk needs to be 6" longer or something

Yeah here are the pics from the NY Auto show:

Tiny trunk unless it protrudes pretty far into the seating area.

I love everything about it but that rear wing... it just doesn't look right on this car for some reason.

^^thats what im saying, theres no gap between the base of the rear window and the wing. older sti's had this gap. like i said i think the trunk needs to be a bit longer

Is it just me or does it look like the rear end is slowly morphing into the older style EVO's? I think the WRX sedan's are much nicer looking than the hatch.

I am still liking the hatch more.

The price difference is getting too high between the two without huge improvements to the STI. Yeah bringing back the sedan will get a lot of people to buy the STI again because they didn't like the hatch.
