Hi all,
My wife called me while driving it home the other day and told me the car felt "rough" particularly when she accelerated, while braking, and I'm pretty sure while idling too. I pulled out the OBDII reader and ran a diagnostic on it. I didn't start the car up or anything initially but just turned it on to check for any codes. This is what came back:
P0304 – Cylinder 4 Misfire
P0204 – Cylinder 4 Injector Circuit
P0174 – System Too Lean (Bank 2)
P0016 – Crankshaft Position / Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A)
A while back when I had an ignition coil issue with #5 and swapped it with #6 and it seemed to have resolved, I had ordered some new Denso (likely OEM) ignition coils JIC. The next day, I went ahead and replaced ignition coil #4 with the new Denso just to see if that *might* resolve any of the codes.
Started up the car and noticed a slight rough idle. I plugged in the OBDII reader and put it in live mode then let it idle more and took it for a short drive up the street and back. I'm pretty certain I experienced the same behavior my wife was decscribing when she called last night.
I also heard what sounded to be a creaking/squeaking noise when accelerating or reversing, so I'm wondering if that might be related to the crankshaft code...
Anyway, after that a couple of codes returned:
P0204 – Cylinder 4 Injector Circuit
P0016 – Crankshaft Position / Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A)
Also, STFT Bank 2 is +35-45% where STFT Bank 1 is -8% and dropped while driving, which I think indiciates imbalance in fuel distribution.
I ended up pulling the voltmeter out and confirmed no ohm reading on the #4 ignition coil so it looks like I'll have to replace it. #5 & #6 were fine. I'm sure I'll want to test the others as well.
As a side, I also noticed some exposed and frayed wiring...sigh:
Question: for the P0016 (Crankshaft issue), I wonder if that would be a biproduct of P0204, etc... has anyone seen this come up as a result of cylinder issues and get resolved once those other issues were fixed?
I stumbled across this older thread as a reference point into DIYing the repair so planning to do that (although not looking forward to it):
I've also ordered some parts: a couple OEM fuel injectors, new gaskets, 6 new Motorcraft platinum spark plugs, and some spare wiring and tape to make some splices on the wiring harness.

I notice the spark plug on the firewall side of the engine had an intake on top of the spark plugs. How do you get to those plugs?
