2007 MS3 interior different?

Still fairly new to the MS3 scene so pardin my "newbness." I was reading Edmunds' 2006 Sport Compact Comparison Test and the area to the right of the shifter looks different and has controls. Any idea what that is? Was it a pre-production model or something?

I live having the little open tray there, it makes a nice place to sit my cell phone or my sunglasses since our overhead map light section doesnt come with the pop-open sunglasses holder like my 350Z had

Oh cool. Makes perfect sense. I do like the little nook there, too. I've only had the car a few days so I haven't really quite figured out what I'm going to use it for
