2007 M3 Engine meltdown!!...

Here's my thing, what if yo do you own oil changes. Are you supposed to Keep record's of that to. I think they are just looking for a reason not cover the problem.

Well if you do your own oil changes then you must keep all receipts, and log each time in a log book with the VIN number and millage next to it. You have to keep really good records or they will void out any coverage. This is a somewhat new policy and they are getting strict about it. I have been reading all day on the web about cases just like mine and others where they will not cover the transmission and claim abuse on the component. Oh yeah also each time you hit your rev-limiter it stores it on the ECU and they can pull that data off and use that against you as well. All these new cars run on a CANBus system and communicate data back to the ECU for storage. (The Black Box Concept) Just something to keep in mind for all you tuners.

I care. (lol2)

Why the heck are you on this website if all your going to do is b**** and complain about something as little as a title and I have read and watched lots of reviews where they said "Mazda 3 not to be confused with another 3" so basically you should shut your **** mouth and go wine to your mother... she is most likely about to call you to come up from the basement to come and eat dinner anyway.

As for the thread I too had a run in with this oil change problem my 07 M3 : ] had about 30k when I was run off the road and hit a curb blowing a tire and messing up the whole tire housing they told me I had only had three oil changes and they couldn't fix my car I was pissed because my step-dad is a state trooper and he changed the oil in my car using the oil Mazda told him to use. We weren't asking them to pay for it we just wanted it fixed and they gave us the run around. I had it towed to another dealership who was more then happy to fix my baby as good as new.

mazda does not have this black box concept you talk about, the pcm's in mazda's do not store stuff like that, such as hitting redline and if you drive the car hard. So what you were reading about is not a mazda.

Jiffy Lube is dangerous

Hello everyone well I am new here and its desperate times that bring me to this forum.

I have a 2007 Mazda 3 w/16K miles on it and as of a few days ago my Engine kicked the bucket and blew out a cylinder or rod. Not sure exactly. Anyway the dealership towed it in and said it has a blown cylinder. It makes a ton of metal to metal clucky sound when it runs. Well I have had the car serviced twice at the recommended mileage and looks like I went about 1500miles past my last oil checkup. Soooo as you can imagine the dealership will not cover anything and said so sorry bring the rental car back, pay us for it and oh we need $7900 bucks to install a new engine.

So after screaming every cussword in the book at them, I am left without a car thats going to cost a fortune to fix that I still have to make payments on. Yeah I know its my bad for not doing the oil change on time and I am screwed by their nice fine print contract. (strike)

So here is my questions What should I expect them to tell me what a new engine cost if I do the install, how much should a used one cost if I can find one and what are the differences with the MS3 vs. the M3 can I put a MazdaSpeed engine in it and maybe get something more for my money?

Any suggestions one what I can or should do?

Thanks,
-Neal

Guys can flame me if they want but trusting Jiffy Lube to do an oil change is like trusting a hack in a back alley to do surgery. I've know no less than 6 people who have had serious damage done to their car when they got their "oil" changed at Jiffy Lube.

1. Destroyed serpentine belt.
2. Damaged brake system
3. Didn't fill the engine with oil.
4. Filled Clutch Master cylinder with engine oil. (don't asked me how they did it)
5. Kill electrical system when they accidentally shorted out battery terminals.
6 Damaged Tensioner on timing belt which led to a eaten timing belt.

The truth is that the majority of those chains put their "tech" through minimal training with no specialized knowledge. To them an engine is an engine is an engine.

That's one of the reasons I go to my dealer. Good dealers are factory trained and are accountable for any work done to your vehicle. And they also have to keep history of your car on file.

You may pay an extra 10 to $20 bucks per oil change but given the headaches your going through it makes sense. My dealer for example made good on replacing two engines I know of over the past 5 years becasue the mechanic failed to tighten the oil pan plug. No arguements because it was apparent that they were the only ones who touched the car.

Bottom line accidents happen but being loyal to a good dealer insures you'll be taken care of. At least that's my experience.

End of soap box. :-)

I just shake my head when people argue for (in defense of) Jiffy Lube.

There is no way an extra 1500 miles caused this!
have you read the warranty agreement closely? i would go through it with a fine tooth comb and check with a layer or something...right now your time and effort is worth $7K right?!
Good luck man!

I would get an attorney involved. Or at the minimum, contact Mazda Corporate. Are your intervals 5K in the Manual? Or is this something the dealer said? I know my mazda manual claims 7K mile changes or 5K mile changes under "severe" driving conditions, aka city driving. They can't determine which category you fall into so I say you do one of the following: find another dealer, get a lawyer, or contact Mazda HQ. Dealers are notorious for this sh*t so don't bend over just because they said so. Dealers are not always right, often, they are wrong and must be proven wrong before they will honor a legitimate claim. Sad.

Jiffy Lube sucks. I just changed the oil on my buddy's Nissan. I didn't need a wrench to take the drain plug off. He barely had a quart of oil left in his car. It pays to do your own work or take you car somewhere that you know won't screw your car up.

As for putting the MS3 engine in you will need the following:
Complete Engine(with turbo)
Transmission
Exhaust
Intake
ECU
I know I am forgetting a few things, but it is not impossible.

My owners manual shows 7k for Mazda3 or 5k under sever driving conditions.

You need to push back on the Dealer or call Mazda corp.

They are just trying to weazel their way out of warrant claim.

if nobody else touched the vehicle you should have no problems getting this covered under the warranty

an extra 1500 miles would not cause it to blow, have you checked the oil level yourself? it could not even be oil related,

what records do you have of them performing service on your vehicle, post that up and we can help you some more

but now way did that cause, this guy that comes to my dealership, went 14k miles over an oil change in his Armada, and of course he blew the motor, but we still replaced under warranty. so something is fishy theyre either trying to rip you off, or that mom and pop place ****** u.

I have a 05 Mazda 3,That was involved in the storm we had,no rain damage. And the motor has 12,000 on it and it still runs. If the insurance lets me buy back the car i will have a god solid motor for sal you can still hear it run.. lmk

Sounds like you ran out of oil. Sounds like the ma and pop Iffy Lube didnt put enough, left something loose or you burned it out over the course of your oil change interval and never checked... or a combination of any of those factors...

The Stealership wants to rob you.... You could fully build an engine with rods and pistons, and some bolt ons like header, bored TB, cams to on a used engine for that price... or you could just save the money and get a used replacement and remember to check the oil level
