Somewhere I found and purchased NGK's ILTR5A-13G iridiums for my 5 Touring a couple of years ago and until now had no need to install them. Finally it was time and now it seems these are not the correct ones after all? I did install and the engine started fine with no issues (in fact, runs very smooth), but it seems these are only for 3 versions and 2008+ Mazda5. MY question is, if the 2006-10 models all have the same 2.3L Engine (as well as comparable 3's), then why wouldn't these be compatible?

I did notice the threads were longer, but I also found some threads stating this is of no consequence.

Longer threads on a spark plug definitely mean the plug can reach into a thicker head "roof". I sure wouldn't want the tip of the plug sticking too far into the cylinder especially if the TDC piston clearance isn't there.
