You have to look at the history of mazda. The Maita has been overrated in the HP dept in the past. That is what lead to people questioning the RX8 output and all know the outcome of that deal. Even with the FSDE engine I think the 130hp was overrated. The FS03 engine puts out the same whp numbers but was only rated at 118 at the most. Does this make for a bad car? IMO, no. Hp output shouldnt be as important as hp to weight ratio. The better that number is the better of a true sports car it will be.
bogus numbers, it puts down more than that.
that's a lot of loss.. I've come from the school of thought that drivetrain loss is a hard number. not a percentage. Just because 1 motor makes 200hp, and another makes 400, sitting infront of the same drivetrain, it will still take xxhp to turn the gears in the trans, etc...kcbhiw said:

On a side note, I drove the Solstice, Z4 2.5 and Miata today to kick off Zoom-Zoom live in Miami. Solsitce is a neat looking car, but the interior is cheap, seat and seatbelts are hard to use with the door closed and the top takes 9 that's right, NINE steps to put up and down. It has decent handling and braking, but the extra weight makes it feel more sluggish than the new Miata. The Z4 would be a great car as a daliy driver, it's little better on rough roads and feels more comfortable than either, but all around, the Miata was much better than either IMO.

I think the Miata is a great overall car as far as wgt/hp ratio the new one looks a little S2000ish for me

i like the car, but i'd take an 04 msm over it any day of the week
the new Si puts down 204whp and the S2000 puts down 230whp, Honda seems to underrate their engines.

During the initial sales period, independent testing on chassis dynos measured between 165 and 180 wheel horsepower (123 and 134 kW, respectively). Considering that the transmission and rear end is identical to the 6-speed Miatas, and this drivetrain combination is known to consume almost exactly 30 hp (22 kW) between the engine and the wheels across a wide range of engine powers (from 100 hp/74 kW to 400 hp/298 kW), it is almost a surety that the RX-8 is still overrated by at least 25 hp (18.6 kW).

I'd take one............................if I wasn't 6'4". Its a little rough to drive with the top up.
A few years ago my father and I looked into getting a used Z3 3.0i but decided not to after I couldnt sit in the car with the top up. I don't plan on driving around only to come back with a windburn line straight across my forehead.

What the hell does it matter what numbers the car makes?! Get behind the wheel and drive it. How it drives is the only thing that matters. Everyone wants a damn number to use as a bragging right or something.
Same thing happened with the RX-8. People bought the car, drove the car, were happy, then all of a sudden Mazda changed the numbers because they were using the Japanese outputs(no emmission controls) and everyone gets pissed that the car they love to drive was misqouted by 9 hp. Mazda even offered $500 and buy-backs, and people actually sold thier car back to Mazda. Why?! Because they feel that a stupid number representation is so important, more important than how the car actually drove. Were these cars actually down HP from before Mazda redid the numbers? Hell no. So why complain?!
