2006 Mazda 3 tires problems?

I'm at 30,000 miles and my tires are worn way down. A guy told me to take it to the dealership because apparently this has been a common problem on the 2006 Mazda 3's. Anyone else have this problem?

Your expectation for your tires were greater than 30,000 miles. Tires will not live up to expectations when they are not rotated every 5,000 miles, if they have not been checked for proper inflation on a regular basis and if you drive fast into corners. Lastly, the type of road traveled will wear out many a passenger tire. i.e. road construction, pot holes etc.If you can swing it, get a set of Michelin tires. Michelin does not cut corners on it's product no matter the price point. If not Michelin, be sure to get a very good set of tires, certainly better than stock.
Any car is only as good as it's tires, and anyone riding with you are only as safe as what the tires are capable of handling short of human error. The best protection from a car accident is avoiding one, your tires are the first line of defense. Cheers.

they're worn way down because they are past their rated life... the stock goodyears are only 280 treadwear

we don't have buicks with 50000 mile tires... this is NOT a "common problem", it is a simple fact of wear and tear and life expectancy of the product

yeah pretty much what theman said thats over what most people around here have gotton for life out of their tires i thought i was doing well when i got 25k out of mine. i suggest doing some research on sites like tirerack.com and seeing what tire and price point you are comfortable with.

I just had set #3 put on @ 104000km (60 000 miles) I go to a dealer that has free tires for life program as long as I do all service there they replace tires for free, the dealer's a little out of the way but definitely worth it as once the tread depth hit's 6/32" they start getting a little snaky.

Damn, that's a good deal, your dealer sounds awesome!
Which dealer is it if you don't mind sharing. I might be moving to Vancouver some time soon.

yur not crazy the tires suck

hey i have a mazda 3 '06 and i had the same problems with them after 30,000km i had to replace them. i also purchased blizzac ice tires and best decicion of my life! and my tire wore not because of my driving but simply because they are very poorly made. and they wore very unevenly one front tire was worn double the amount of its counter part. i over all am pretty disapointed with my mazda i have had nothing but problems.

I wore out my stock Toyo Proxes that came with my 2007 Mazda 3 at just under 25,000 miles. (Just over a year of owning the car).

I replaced them with Toyo Proxes 4's and so far, at 39,000 miles, these are still looking awesome.

I have always had my tires rotated on time, and have three re-seals and eight rotations so far on this set.

yea tell me about it...the stock tires are a peice of garbage.
i dont drive my car for the time being because it isnt safe..thats how worn they are. im just waiting for my new set of wheels to get tires.

Mazda KNOWS about the tire problems and WILL NOT HELP!!!!

I bought what I thought was a decent little car, and in many ways it has lived up to its promise. I have to say however that I started having tire problems with this car at 5500 miles (oscillation noise from rear tires) and it started to freak me out because I had owned an original 350Z, and went through two tire swaps with that car inside of 25K miles (at least Nissan had the decency of assisting me with the tire issue). I returned to my dealership after the initial visit of 5500 miles to complain once more of a now unbearable noise from the rear tires, again 'no trouble found' just rotate the tires (Anderson Mazda of Crystal Lake, their service SUCKS) So I went to a tire shop where they rotated the tires for me front to bk and across (for FREE Anderson!!!). The problem became worse. Went to another tire place again at 16.5k miles and they not only found that the rear tires were cupped but the front tires were practically 80% worn. Now here I sit after months of dealing with this with a car that's under 29k miles, with completely worn out Yokohama tires, and no help from Mazda (they basically told me to f-off) and absolutely no help from the dealer or from Yokohama tires. I will NEVER EVER even consider buying another Mazda product, or Yokohama for that matter and I will certainly NEVER go to another Anderson owned dealership. I'd rather bike 80 miles to work. Stay away from Mazda products. They admit they KNOW about the problem, because it is caused by the factory settings of their suspensons (negative toe and camber) to make the car feel more 'sporty' and stable. If they are going to sell a car with a performance set suspension that they KNOW is going to shred your tires they SHOULD DISCLOSE THIS at the point of sale!!!!! :lemon:

The Yokohamas Avids S34 that come with the Mazda 3 are 60,000 mile rated tires (direct from Yokohama) The problem is not missing your rotation by a couple of hundred miles, or whatever, the issue is that Mazda has a design/specification flaw, and cars are coming off the assembly line with excessive negative toe and camber and they are shredding tires up.

Go to another dealer.... but don't cry about it. Just ask them to check the alignment due to the issues with tire wear you've had and REQUEST THE SPEC PRINT OUT!

Geez... who buys a ~$20k car and doesn't do any research on it's known problems?:'(

My 2012 3 skyactive ate the rear stock tires in about 13000 KILOMETERS! The dealership blamed the problem on crappy oem tires and offered to sell me a new set of tires at cost. Then the car ate a set of rear snow tires (toyo observes) in 14,000 Kilometers. After this they did two 4 wheel alignments on the car and found it was out of spec on the rear secondary angles. The dealership is now giving me a set of all seasons and a set of winters, which is great. Mazda, however, has basically said, ok, your car is defective, tough. They also said; "Your car is set up for handling, so now go out and put a set of harder (read, not good for handling) tires on it and live with the problem. Dealership good, Mazda....not so much.
