2006 2.4L Cobalt SS Review and Pics unofficial

opel is german. the cobalt is all american. the last opels brought over here were the Saturn LS and the Cadillac Catera

To straighten all this out what is what.

The Cobalt, ION, and Opel Astra use the Delta plateform. The now dead Saturn LS rides on the previous Opel Vectra plateform and the Catera rides on the Opel Omega plateform which also underpins the Holden RWD cars and our GTO.

The Chevy Malibu/ Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 series, Saturn Aura, Saab 9-3 series, and Opel Vectra use the Epsilon chassis.

its still a GM, its still a POS :) the 05 does not look to bad but the 06 is uggggggggggly and those rims are beyond hidious

hmm 2.4 I wonder if they are using the same bad engine as the 95+ sunfires - cavs you know the one that the waterpump sucks on, I had one had the thing go bad twice

I would never buy another GM in my life after owning 3 of them, evar

No, it's the newest version of the EcoTech. It's 2.4L with upgraded sensors, etc.

I want an ecotech. :(

no you don't,this car is a joke.
GM has been doing a lot of cheap gimmicks to try to appeal to all market, but never paying any attention to detail, making cars that are made to be daily driven in stock form.

if you want a car to be a well balenced modable car, this aint it.

the protege is a better platform due to it's handleing,it was just lacking power.

this car is lacking handling, and quality.it's vaery cheaply built, and handles worse then most newer cars I have driven.

Actually, I would tend to think just the opposite. On track the Ion Redline could out-handle an SRT-4 but would get muscled on the straights. I haven't seen any direct comparo's with the Cobalt, but they're the same basic car. Even though they don't have an independant rear suspension they handle quite well, and the everyday driver that's not driving road courses on the weekend would never notice the difference. The average driver cares more about HP in their daily driving. Cobalts have even won a few Grand Am Cup races -- something our MSP's could never acheive.

The Cobalt SS has a forged bottom end and can take a lot more boost. GM has already started coming out with "stage" kits with Stage II goot for about 265 HP.

With the Cobalt SS you're getting a nice looking car, with an ok interior, a solid engine that's easily upgradeable, and a decent suspension.

edit: All my above comments go for the Supercharged SS versions.

I have driven the piss out of the SS supercharged, the SS 2.4L,the SRT-4,and the MSP on the track, the SRT is front heavy being unpredictable, the SS supercharged has a bit of pep,but is not fast at all,and it as well as the 2.4 version fell just like driving a sentra SE-R on a track.

much happier with the MSP handling.

the new corvette really impressed me though, aswell as the cadillac CTS-V(side note)
