2002 mp5 alarm trouble

Hi all,

This is my first post to the forum. I just bought a used 2002 MP5 automatic, midnight blue. It's a great little car, but right now I'd like it better if I could start it.

Somehow, I managed to trip the factory alarm's ignition cutoff, because I can no longer turn the ignition to any position. I can activate and deactivate the alarm by turning the key in the driver's side door. The alarm flashes normally (slowly) when active and not upset. There's a toggle switch beside the interior light dimmer to the left of the steering column, but it feels broken, and has no apparent effect. The alarm box, below the dash by the inside fuse box, is Mazda-branded and looks stock; the toggle looks like an add-on. I'd just leave it and go to the movies, but all the windows are down. I do not have an owner's manual or a manual for the alarm. This is my first car with an alarm, so I have basically no alarm skills to work from.

It's the Sunday of a long weekend, so the dealer isn't accessible. Short of camping out by my MP5 until Tuesday morning, I'd really appreciate any advice.

Try Unhooking the battery and reconecting it. Make sure doors are closed. When reconect battery, lock car, unlock car. open door and start car. This is what I've done a couple times. If this does not work than I am out of ideas for right now. But this has happened to me, and this is what I had to do.

have you tried disconnecting the alarm itself? there was one time where everytime you unlock the car it would tell you its unarmed then when you open the door the alarm goes all crazy. when you close the door and lock it its ok again. so then my dad comes out and pulls the alarm out and it starts up perfectly. we just took it to the dealer and they replaced the alarm and said it was something about a sensor broken in there. if you shook the box you can hear something rattling around.

Ok, I'm getting the jackass of the year award for this one, but I didn't realize that I had to get some play in the steering wheel to be able to turn the ignition key.

2002 PR5 Alarm Problem - Similar but Different

OK - haven't been here in a while and not sure if this should be a new post so maybe I can get some feedback. Read on if you are having the same problem because I found a quick fix if you need the car started.

I also have a midnight blue 2002 PR5...spooky.

First: my problem - my car would not start - was being diabled by the alarm. I had the car armed w/ the window down and the girlfriend unlocked the door - setting off the alarm. After that key fobs stopped working but I was able to disable the alarm at the ignition. A few days later I replaced the car battery when getting an oil change - and then the alarm went off and wouldn't stop - and ignition was disabled. The place somehow got car started but as soon as I turned it off at my office- same problem.



It has a "factory" alarm even though Mazda dealer will tell you its not factory at first, little red light on dash, etc. It is a Nadec fobs but was installed in Japan w/ the car because its wired in w/ factory harness and the guy I bought this off of bought it right off the truck as it was the first one in Ohio, never saw the inside of a dealership. Key fobs are Nadec and there is a black box (3" x 4.5") under the dash / steering column that says Mazda Vehicle Security System. My Ex had a Prodege EX and she had the exact same system too.

I should add - it was weird the way the alarm went off.. light blinked quickly for about 30 seconds on dash, then horn went off and lights, etc. Usually it went off as soon as something was tripped.

I read posts and was able to re-sync two fobs using 3x ignition / door open + fob button technique- cool, since I never knew why one fob didn't work, but still same alarm going-off problem and car didn't start. I unhooked batter, removed fuse from alarm (right under dash by steering wheel), and tried various combinations. If I unhooked battery with carr ignition in ACC on this did turn off the alarm, but then the alarm eventually would go off again when you tried to start. Tried locking doors / unlockinging in various combinations, hood, etc. tried everything w/ doors locked but w/ windows down...


My thoughts are:

1) alarm board went bad, or;
2) the alarm is also wireless? (there is a wireless sensor labeled under the steering column) and became un-synced?
3)bad sensor.

QUICK SOLUTION:

There was a wiring diagram on the side of the alarm, if you can believe that (I love you, Mazda) and right there it shows the 2-prong plug under "STARTER" is the starter interrupt. I simply made a jumper out of a piece of solid-strand cooper wire at the car plug under the dash and she fired up! Bad news is power door locks and who knows what else, does not work. I was pleasantly surprised that the horn and parking lights seem to work though. I can probably make more jumpers and get some of those things to work...

QUESTIONS:

Does anyone know if the alarm is wireless and needs synced? My guess is no, and that the alarm has just malfuntioned. If not, I'll try Ebay but if anyone has a "Mazda Security System" board they took out to put in a custom alarm let me know! It could also be a bad sensor so I might try going through and seeing what's tripping on/off.... any suggestions welcome but at least if you are in a similar situation and read this you can get the thing started...

My car also has alarm issues, where I cannot use the lock function on the remote or else the headlights turn on. Also, the shock sensors don't do anything. I can tap the sensor itself and it won't go off. I've been trying to findout how to remove the goddamn piece of s***, but haven't put much effort into it i.e. I have not looked under the dash lol. With all the stock alarm issues, I think you'd be better off with an aftermarket alarm.

If I understand this correctly, to "remove" the alarm, all I need to do is disconnect the 18 way connector and solder the motor side and key side of the starter and I'm good?

Or will my power door locks be dead...Thanks for sharing

the alarm is all "plug and play"... there is an inline harness that plugs up to the factory harness... if you remove it and reconnect the factory harness it will be back to complete stock with no alarm
