2002 Mazda Protege5 whistle?

im currently on the quest to buy my first car. today i test drove a 2002 mazda protege5 in an automatic transmittion. it was really nice! no rust which was surprising, everything was clean, and some general maintenance was done. the car was great. while test driving it, I noticed once i reached about 3500 to 4000 rpms, there was a strange almost turbo spooling noise coming from the rear. once the test drive was done, we parked it and revved the engine again, but never heard the whistle sound. so it only seems to be while the car is moving. Ive seen a few forum posts about this already, but just want to hear what people think. i dont think its the exhaust or anything... maybe the brake calipers?! i dont know.

regardless, im going to get the carproof and get it inspected by a mechanic before i decided to buy it. im just hoping its nothing serious because its in great condition and i really want to buy it. Thanks!

I never noticed it before I installed a cold air intake and header, but I have that same whistle and have been told it is pretty loud. I have only been able to hear it from inside of the car.
