hello - im torn between a 14k mile 2001 mazda mp3 @13,499 or a 2000 honda prelude w\ 35k and at 16999 - both i can afford - the prelude is much faster stock but it dosent have the look of the mp3, although sporty and nice. Im kind of torn - wht would you guys all pick?

brand new $13k p5 at a mazda dlr near you or couple more for msp i think about +$3k but am not sure

basically anything new with a warranty and the works the deals are unbelievable this time a year

Are you in Canada? Those prices seem really high for US $. You said miles so maybe you are in the US? I wouldnt pay more than ~$10k US for an MP3.

I would get the Prelude, because there are so many performance parts for your car. If you want to go N/A I have seeen the engine do 240hp to the wheels and it could still do more. And turbo it fuking great. I have a friend that has one, turbo and when the V-TEC kicks in and the turbo combines it's impresive. I love Protege's but I would get the Honda

The mp3 would be a 2 yr old car now, not 3yrs old...although its a 2001, it came out with the 2002's. 10k for an MP3 with only 14k miles on it would be a ripoff to the seller...Its not like you can find them on every corner.

Also, if you're counting $2k/yr for depreciation, AND considered it a 3 yr old car, that would make it $12.5k... make it correctly a 2 yr old car, and you're @ $14.5k... an MP3 with only 14k miles and in very very good shape I think could easily fetch $13-14k.

All that being said; if you've got $17k to spend, go out and get yourself a Speed :)

^^ what he said ^^

EVERYONE has a honda, and not many have the Mp3 ... due to the fact that the Mp3 is a limited edition car it was released later then the 2001 line-up. Most Mp3 owners did not even buy their car until well into 2002.

To this day I still get people asking me what this car is and they comment on how nice my car is. Its a good feeling knowing that your next door neighbor does not have the same car as you (ie...honda)

Besides ... you can always TURBO your Mazda and get that power your looking for. Oh yeah, and on a side note ... the Mp3 out handles the Honda with out a doubt.

i think you guys need to get real ... first of all we are almost in 2004 .. some ppl count years as such 2001 02 03 04 .. thats 4
say its a a late 01 or whatever then ill give it 3

look up edmunds too dlr trade-in 8200, priv sale 9700, dlr sale 11200

i tend to higly underpice cars value especially when they are used and i usually end up the right mark

ill give you that it looks .. hmmm same style as then p5 in fact
thats worth 13k new right now .. say 15k otd - my 6k for dep 9k is all would pay for it

other then the look and mp3 player which i heard isnt all that great it doesnt have anything else to it

if i liked it and i was haggling with the actual owner not dealer i could buy it somewhere under 10k but no more

sorry to seem like im trying to trash it .. im not .. but used car prices really suck .. and there is nothing we can do about it .. except for not getting ripped when we buy one

i paid $13,300 for my mp3 with 19k miles on it in march......it now has 37,800 on it lol. i drive....alot.

Yes , used car prices suck. So do online valuation methods. Bottom line is, even if Edmunds says a dealer can get $11,200 for it, so can anyone else. If you're in the right area, and someone really wants one, well, you could get $12. I think that's more than real. Again, the key is, "You don't want to pay that? Ok, that's fine, enjoy trying to find another one anywhere close (geographically), and in half decent shape". If you're desperate to sell an MP3, yes, you're screwed. But if you've got the time, it'll sell for close to what you want.

Again, if I were a person looking for a car like this, I'd buy a Speed for $17k (I, personally, will never buy another Mazda)

The mp3 is a 2001, and when you go to sell it, trust me....it's a 2001. Whether it shipped with the 2002's means nothing to the potential buyer, bank, or inusrance.

I've had both the MP3, and a 1997 Prelude ( same thing ) The mp3 handles better, has a 10 times better stereo, but the prelude has gobs of power beyond the MP3 and the vtec is fun. Their still good on gas, have a great resale value, and you get heated power seats, heated mirrors, mooonroof among other things, one of the best shifters on the market, nice interior ( not convinced it's nicer then the mp3, but it is nice, even more so in leather), and contrary to what some might think here, it's still one of the best handling front drivers on the road( also won awards from mags for best handling under 35k). I miss my prelude a lot. It was a great car. If they still made them, I'd probaby be driving one.

If it wasn't in bad shape, and taken care of, I'd get the lude. The mp3 might be prettier, and handles tons better but I'd still get the lude.

After my car accident where I lost my MP3, I was considering buying a used Black 03 Mazdaspeed for $16,500. So there are definately MSP's out there for the price of the Prelude. You might have to have the car shipped to you or drive faily far to pick it up. But between the 2, I'd go for the MP3. and if you have money left over get a HiBoost Turbo Kit.

May sell my MP3?!?!

I really need to get a truck for work. My MP3 may be for sale for the right price. I know Im asking more than book, but I will lay it out there anyways.
Rare yellow MP3, with 16,000 miles on it. I will sell it for $13500. I dont want to sell, and I really dont have to, but a new truck would be nice to haul my junk and toys around with. So hit this post up. Thanks:D
