2001 Mazda Protege 1.6L
One day driving on my way to work pushing my car going 80-90 on a steep inclined hill (1000ft + incline from bottom to top of hill) not to mention the weather was a good 98-103 that morning. Needless to say as soon as a got to the bottom of the hill onto the next freeway my car died out on me 5 min away from work. The car is an automatic, I was going through every gear manually and clicking my Overdrive button on/off to control 3rd and 4th gear. Towed my car back home,;the Gauge is pegged on hot, Main fuse is blown to pieces, and the car will crank but not start. Looked at other forum's and came to conclusion it's the ECU. Changed the temperature gauge sensor, new fuel pump, new 100 amp fuse, and Got an Used ECU and still the car won't start. The Ecu is from a 2000 Mazda protege ZM36-1881D, called Local Mazda dealer and they said my ECU last four vin #1881D. So on a whim I ordered the ECU from the 2000 protege, and tried installing it into my car, The actual last four vin # is 1881C, before I give up on my beloved protege, If I were to order the same exact Ecu that matches my vin Would it work? Do I need to call someone to come out and reprogram the Ecu when I install it? I'm caught in between whether calling a cash for cars, or ordering the matching ecu. I notice that a lot of other people have the same problem I'm having so just wondering if anyone has found the solution to this.

The ecu will depend on the motor, make sure you get the correct one for your size motor and vehicle year. But how do you know the ecu is the issue? Are you just guessing based on what you saw on the internet, or have you diagnosed the problem and found a faulty ecu?
