2000 ES Protege Anatomy

Hello,

I am belt questions about the 2000 Mazda Protege ES.

If you can tell me:
1. What specific parts use the belts (ie: alternator, etc.)
2. Does the Protege use the V-belt, or the surpentine belt?
3. Is it just one long belt that is used for all the parts, or separate part of each belt?
4. What is the difference between the drive belt or drive belts and the engine timing belt?
5. If the engine timing belt is the long belt that connects to the other parts as well?

Thanks.

1. The alternator, water pump, A/C, and Power Steering are belt driven.
2. The Protege uses 2 serpentine belts on the 1.6L and im sure the same on the 1.8l and 2.0l
3. the alternator and water pump have its own belt and the power steering and A/C use the other belt(once again on the 1.6L so its prob. similar on the 1.8L)
4. Drive belts i think are another term for serpentine belts and the timing belt is the belt that goes from the crank to the cam gears which allow the cams to rotate(basic description)
5. the timing belt is not seen unless the valve cover is removed or the timign belt cover is removed. and it only connects the crank to the cam gears.

i dont think i missed anything, if i did please just ask, im going from experience on my 1.6l DX im sure the 1.8L belt setup is very similar

Thanks for the help! So the serpentine belts you see when you pop the hood are different from the engine timing belt, correct? where is the timing belt located?
