A welded LSD should hold more power then you need... mazdaspeed20035 was useing a welded LSD before this build he is doing now.

however, he can't put anywhere near the power he's making on the ground... on drag slicks he'd send pieces of that transmission all over the european union.
Not true at ALL!!!!I've done this 3 times and about to do it again. there is't much to it if you know your way around shop tools. The hardest part is getting the shaft lined up just right to get it to slide back in when you reinstall the trans. 4 jack stands, 2 jacks and some common knowledge of the car is about it.also, im not sure if you know this or not, but dropping the trans by itself without taking the engine out is extremely difficult, almost impossible

I couldn't see a difference in strength between welding the case of a new lsd or a used one. The weld is to keep the case from breaking has nothing to do with the internals of the lsd.
On a lot of rear wheel drive vehicles people weld the gears to lock both wheels similar to a spool, but to weld the case on the lsd it just strengthens the weak stock lsd case. The lsd will work the same, it will just take more abuse.
there have been numerous reports of people breaking LSDs that were welded used... and none, or at most a couple new welded LSDs that have been broken. Oil penetration could have a lot to do with it, or microfractures in the metal prior to welding.I couldn't see a difference in strength between welding the case of a new lsd or a used one. I don't have the posts bookmarked, and given they were used, its possible the quality of the welds were questionable, but I believe I've read at least 4 different people breaking a used, then later welded LSD. but yes, the LSD failure list is where I believe I read at least some of them.Proof please.
agreed, and i believe each case (unless the poster there misunderstood) is a case failure. But was the failure because of the case, or the internals of it? That what I need to know, putting welds there even though its used will NEVER hurt it... it will still help it.

I'm not aware of any of the LSD guts themselves failing.
