2 Step For MSP's

Please feel free to contact me when you guys need your transmissions rebuilt.

The point of the no-lift shift is that it makes it easier to shift and reduces the chance of transmission damage. If you drive a car with a WOT Box you will see what we mean. The no-lift shifts are effortless, as if you are shifting the car with the engine off. This drastically reduces the load on the syncros and shift selectors in the transmission, preventing damage from overly forceful shifting.

how does the 2 step work with a cable throttle?

It doesn't matter if you have a cable throttle or drive by wire. You go to WOT and the WOT Box cuts spark to some of the cylinders to hold the RPM you have programmed. This way the throttle is completely open and you can spool up the turbo before launching.

The same thing with the no-lift shift. The throttle remains open during the shift so you hold boost through the shift. That means you don't have to respool the turbo in the next gear. Bam. Instant on power. You can typically shave at least 0.1 seconds per shift with a system like this. That means a minimum gain of 0.3 seconds in the 1/4 mile. More if you have a larger turbo. We have seen gains of up to 1 whole second with some very large turbo cars.

I understand how no-lift shifting works. There is a lot of shock loading into the gearbox, even if the synchro engagement is smoother.

Yes, but typically the syncros are the part of the transmission that are more fragile. Those were the majority of the transmission failures we were seeing on the SRT-4 that caused us to come up with the WOT Box.

Of course, you will need a strong clutch to no-lift shift if you want to get the maximum benefit.

You can also leave the ignition cut on a long time setting, like the auto mode. The shock of the no-lift shift will be very little and you will still get the easy shifting. However, you won't get the maximum performance gain.

But on the Protege inparticular, the gear itself is very weak. Its a cool product, especially since you offer it for many different cars. I like to see that the unit was the answer to a problem in the SRT4, it shows its not just a fancy blue box, but well thought out :)

we have had many guys with srts that put a wotbox on their car that have actual trans problems like worn synchs that cant get the car in 3rd gear for the life of them during normal driving let alone wot shifting... after they install the wot box it is the only way they can get it into gear.

we also can post probably at least a couple dozen threads to where guys who consistently race their car like its a religion have dropped anywhere from .3 to over a full second in e.t. with no other changes other than adding the wotbox

we have seen a lot of guys snap input shafts when using heavy clutches, this was our main inspiration for developing the wotbox. the srt trans input shaft is carburized from the factory and very brittle on the outer portion of the shaft. to find out exactly how bad i took a couple and disected them.the outer portion of the shaft is a 60 rockwell hardness while the inner is a 30 rockwell..what that means is when the shaft torques it needs to rebound back to its original position.the fact that the shaft is molecularly inconsistent it stretches and ultimately snaps when it cannot recover anymore.

by controlling the ignition at the shift point we effectively remove the torque from the shaft on a timed delay so that the shaft indeed can fully recover before torque is applied through the shaft.it also will have the wonderful sensation of going through the gearbox with the car off sitting in the driveway

regardless of year make and model the design and function of all manual transmissions are very similar, they just come to work dressed differently.the mechanical functions are the same

I've installed the WOT Box on my MSP. The directions you get from N2MB were actually made by me. The WOT Box works awesome. You can set you rev limiter for better launches and use the no-lift shifting for better acceleration. The best part about it is that instead of releaving pressure during shifts (through the BOV of BPV), you retain most of the boost. So, I usually retain about 8 psi between gears to start into the next gear (Im running 12 psi w/unichip). It really is a great upgrade. Think about it. You can go faster without technically increasing horsepower.
