2.3s 4 dr vs 2.3s 5 dr

is the 2.3 in the 4 dr rated with the same hp as the 5 door?
auto week and motor trend rate the 2.3s 4dr at 148 hp and the
5 dr at 160. the window sticker indicated 160 when i brought the car.
in both mags the mazda 3 was salected the best compact for the price
but it worries me that they are rating my 4 door at 148. if this is correct,
mazda Puerto Rico has some explaining to do.

148hp is the 2.0l's rating. I don't know if you've got a 2.3l, but if you do then you've got 160hp, whether it's in a HB or sedan. They were probably saying the 2.0 sedan is the best deal, that or they're flat out wrong.

BUt in the magazine comparo, they specifically indicate the 4 door 3s
2.3 as having only 148 hp. with they claim is the reason it got smoked
by the corolla xrs in quarter mile performance (the 3 had the worst time
of the test. low 16's compared to mid 15's for all the rest. check it out.
they're in news stands now.

actually i think the 2.3l may have only 148hp in certain states like CA due to emissions regulations. but i am not sure i may be just talking out of my (ass)

when i was in car sales with mazda all 2.3 engines had 160hp

According to the Mazda site, it says the 2.0L has slightly reduced HP in certain states due to emission control laws. However, it doesn't say anything about reduced HP for the 2.3L that I can see.

I know what you mean, I read Motor Trend and they have published that the 2.3 has 148 hp for the last 2 months. I think that some one needs to inform them.
