2.3L Supercharged

So the Protege is a small car with a small engine compartment, but if they can fit a 2.0 turbo in there, surely they could substitute the 2.3L supercharged engine from the Millenia with 210HP and 210Torque...

Hum... the engine already is in production, why not mount it inside a MazdaSpeed Protege? I bet it'd run with the WRX then.

That question pops up on MX6.com occasionally...."can I fit a 2.3L Miller cycle engine in an MX-6?" It's possible, but it would probably be a nightmare to accomplish. The supercharger/intercooler would have to fit somewhere in order to get close to the 210hp that they get out of the Millenia S. It's not as simple as just putting the 2.3L K series block into a Protege.

If I were to go through the trouble of giving a Protege V-6 power, I'd go with the 190-200hp KL-ZE (2.5L J-spec MX-6 engine). It could probably be purchased cheaper than a used Millenia S engine anyway.

Yea, it probably wouldn't be simple or cheap, but if it was done professionally, you'd be looking at serious performance. Plus, in competition, it'd be one of the most unique and impressive mods.

Plus, isn't that Miller engine pretty reliable? It'd be a lot of fun for a long time... I guess it'd be more of a hobby... what do you guys think? $3,000 for a 2.3L s/c engine and another $2,000 for installation and specialty parts?

I can't find their webpage any more but someone took an older Protege and put a J-spec 2.5L v-6 in it. If I find it again I'll post it.

I think the REAL point Cali_Mazda_Fan is making, is if MAZDA can put that engine in the millenia, then why don't they put it in the Protege...FROM THE FACTORY....ENGINEER it that way....NOT a mod or swap.

we could always hope :{D

Alot of manufactures are moving towards V6's instead of 4s these days. The Tiberon, Eclipse and Altima were all previously 4 cylinder cars only. Maybe theirs a chance we'l' see the Duratech engine in the protege as an option sooner or later.

God I hope not...

Not exactly my first choice either but who knows we may see the old 2.5 v6 come back around although it does appear that Mazda is trying to kill it off.

I remember on another site where a guy put a KL series 2.5L V6 in a 91' Mazda Protege 323. It ran 14's in the 1/4 without any substantial mods whatsoever... I think a KLZE would look oh so nice sitting in front of the firewall in my P5. :)
(The handling would probably suck after that though, lol...)
