1st Gear + Rush Hour Traffic

i've found that my p5 is not as smooth in first gear as the 2001 honda civic and even the 2002 dodge neon.

is it just me or does everyone get the feeling that their p5 engine is falling out when you take your foot off the gas in first gear?

it's like the front off the car drops and i'm not being heavy on the gas either.

i'm gonna go test drive another p5 to see if it's a transmission problem.

let me know what you guys are experiencing
thanks!!!!!!!

actually its the engine mounts...most p5s, pros, and mp3s do this in first gear. the rubber engine mounts are the source of the engine "jumping" around when you get off the gas. they're also a source of some of the wheel hop.

The MP3 does it too.. if i have to take my foot off the gas in first I just go ahead into second.. anything else and it jerks like crazy

same here, its not super bad but it does happen to my p5, more than other cars.

i notice it when i drive around parking lots and going over speed bumps

it's not just a MAzda thing. The Civic I traded in did the same thing. So did my 90.prelude, and 94 lude.

it's just the way these 4 cyls are. It seems the more horse power/torque, the worse it gets. Just something I've noticed.

Same thing happens in my buddy's Jetta VR6 (with a few mods to get it over 200 hp) - it does the same thing and it's very annoying. It's one of the reasons I will never buy a front-wheel drive car again (as my primary car).

I think the first gear ratio is a little too high. Does anyone feel that it winds out way to fast compared to other cars. I feel like I have to shift really fast when I want to accelerate

Yup, that is why I usually start out in 2nd.
