1998 MPV no reverse at times

Hello every one, my FIRST mazda and im lov-in it but at times it wont go into reverse unless i rev it up a great deal and then it slams in to gear?

Sounds like the tranny is low on fluid, or filter is dirty.

start with what is easy and cheapest. change the fluid and filter in the trans and see if that helps
