18's on the P5

I am thinking about swapping out the 16's for some 18" Mille Miglia Evo's, but I am wondering if I'm just going to rub like mad at every turn. I see some of you have 18's listed in your profile and I'm wondering if you could give me an idea of how they drive. If you've got springs on the car, I'd also like to know how much you dropped it.

BTW: If there are any Mazda people reading the posts, use this board as feedback and put another 20 ponies in the next P5.

I put 18's on my car and it changed my driving. Gotta be careful of bumps so I don't taco the rim. There's not much rubber protecting the rim when you move up to 18's. My tires rub because of my Ground-Control coilovers. They are setting at their highest setting. You can see pics of the car at my web site:

I have 18' s on my car, i don't have a prob with my tires rubbing, but then my car is not lowered the car looks great with out it being lowered to me. The ride is a bit harder but the car really looks great. I just bought my car on the 11th of this month. i love this car... :D

18's look great, but don't you think the P5's are slow enough? All that rotating mass has to make a difference, and honestly, I'll take whatever performance gains I can get right now without slowing myself down by looking cool.

Once we have some real performance modifications available, then 18's will be on the list. But until then... nope.

Don't want to bust your bubble but the don't make the evos in 18s for our cars. I called around to try and get them but they all told me that they only make them in 17s and below for our cars.

i would have to agree alittle with the guy who said 18's will slow us down more but i dont want some just not heave ones and ther do exist in light rims.........just look harder.....

I don't feel the 18's slowed me down all that much. I dynoed my car at NOPI last year and got 100 WHP and 107.7 ft-lbs of torque. Our cars are only rated at 130 HP at the flywheel. Typical loss from the flywheel to the wheels is 20%. Also remember that every car is not tuned identically. One car could have 135 HP from Mazda while another has 125. $.02

That sucks that you can't get the Evo's in 18's for the Pro5. They'd look sik. I heard from another guy that 18's on the Pro5 look nice without lowering the car. Maybe that's my ticket.

I guess I've got to go shop for a different style wheel now. :)
