16 minute transmission fluid change

I still get some whine at low turning speed with the Motorcraft XT-M5-QS. Example when i'm driving around in a parking lot looking for a spot.

Do the rest of you guys get any whine at all?

I put in about 2.7 quarts or 2,538 mL to be precise. What I'm paranoid with my car leave me alone lol. It runs amazingly better than the mobil1 synth. It didn't run out this time either and yes it was level I took measurements from the ground to the jack support. I'm still thinking about putting it back up and filling it till it overflows. I get a little diff whine when turning if my wheel is all the way cranked but I would assume that's normal.

Hooooooold the show... is that heat ducting i see in pic #2? is that a fancy new intake design or something?

HAHAHAHAHA

I was SO wondering when that would get flagged

stock inlet>spectre MAF with largest insert and some "straighteners" (they are modeled after the aem's and made from scrap plastic) held in with plastic epoxy>3" to 4" silicone elbow from the t bolt clamp folks > the aforementioned 4" dryer duct>a HUGE spectre filter nestled all happy down low

If someone wants to donate a pretty cobb inlet, I would gladly add it in

A note about the whine with the new fluid. When my fluid was changed by the dealership a while back, I had the whine during turns after that. They needed to add a bottle of friction modifier to the transmission and that fixed the issue.

KY is a great friction modifier, or so the GF claims..... it does seem to cut down on the whine.... moans have gotten worse

What should I do ??

I'll come pay a house call. Once I'm there for a couple hour, you're girl will up and leave you and you'll be done with the problem for good ;)

Good plan, take lottsa pics, I'll be wearing earplugs and watchin TV

LOL - I hope they didn't add a whole bottle (unless it was a really small bottle), or your transmission will be toast. Usually a few drops is all that is needed, although there are reports on this forum that adding friction modifier to this vehicle is not good for the synchros.

Next time get them to use the Ford synthetic that a lot of people here use. It fixed my whine with no modifier.

No idea how much they added back in the day.

I just installed the Ford Synthetic and I think I have a whine again. (eyeballs) Shifting feels different though, have to drive some more with it. But I'm installing a CPe RMM soon too so that might disguise the effect of the fluid.

I am running on a spare tire so I might be hearing that stupid thing. I'll know after today when I pick up my wheel.

Anyone care to resurrect this.
i am swapping out my drivers axle and will do the third trans fluid change. I have just ordered the fluids and the axle arrived today.
i was wondering how folks are doing long term actually

what does everyone think about Royal Purple trans fluid?

Go with the Motorcraft Fully Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid, it is pricey but well worth it. Just put it in my Miata and she is very happy now (2thumbs)
