Gentlemen,

Have not been on the boards for sometime, hope you are all doing well.

The 15K is scheduled for this monday. Besides oil/filter/rotation, what else is really needed? I know the brakes, tranny, plugs, radiator are all in good order, so trying to determine what else is really required?

Thank you for your feedback and I wish those of you with your mom's, that she has a great Mother's Day.

Regards,

SportOwner - I'm at 11,000 and just bought a TYC cabin filter real cheap online. what are your thoughts on not using an OEM mazda cabin filter? Thanks man.

If you read the Mazda service schedule, you will see that other than oil change, there is nothing that you MUST do otherwise the warranty shall be voided. Not even the transmission fluid. Other than that, it is all up to you. You can do as much as often as you have time and money.

My schedule is similar to SportOwner's
oil change: 5K
cabin filter: 15K
tire rotation: 10K
transmission fluid change: 30K
rear differential fluid change: 30K
engine air filter: K&N (clean every 30K)
spark plugs: 60K (? need to check again)
CX9 has timing chain It does not need replacement like belts unless it starts to make noises.

Other than that I turn down everything dealers "claim" I should do.

The cabin filter of CX9 is a basic one.
It does not have active carbon particles charged (looks blackish) on them. (unlike the ones on some luxury vehicles)
It should cost around $10 each. It probably does not matter that much whether it is OE or not.

AMEN!

To SportOwner and Ceric..I do the same.

Like I said in the past....

15K, 30K, 60K...et.al. services = $150-400 oil changes
Nothing but snake oil from stealerships...and I work for one...LOL!

What's that BG Fuel / Induction service some dealers suggest/offer? Do they actually do anything other than pour a can of snake oil into the gas tank? I got suckered into that on my 15K. I'm sure it was pointless, especially with only 15K on it.

From here on out I'm sticking with ceric's schedule. It makes sense to me, but the transmission fluid change at 30K seems awfully frequent. I thought that was more of a 60K thing. Is coolant lifetime on the CX9?

Hey,

What happened to CX9-Sportsowner response?

Also, do you guys have a preferred brand/place/website to buy the cabin air-filter? Thank you.

air filters for engine

Is K&N the best air-filter for the engine? if so. do you guys have a preferred site to order this type of a-filter?

The leads on the cabin air-filter was excellent. How could I not come back and ask for this one too? (drive)

Thanks again guys,

Your going to get mixed reviews on this question. It has been talked over and over before. Some believe it is a waste of money, some of us believe otherwise. I personally believe that if you are looking for dramatic performace gains, you will be dissapointed because the filter will not make a difference unless you drive constantly at "WOT" (wide open throttle). With that said, I do have a drop-in K&N filter in place in my CX-9 and my wife's Escape but I solely did it for the convinience of not having to buy a replacement air filter ever again...and I do clean them every 15K miles.

Good luck!

P.S. By the way, I bought mine from my work so I got them for a killer price ($29~each) but that's my employee price here at work...sorry!

Thanks Davicho - can I be your remote assoc asst today just to qualify for the e-discount? lol

I too am looking for the convenience factor of having not to replace the a-filter over and over...any MPH increase would be so negligible, it would be nearly impossible to appreciate. thx and have a good day on WOT !

Most of the naysayers regarding oiled filters simply don't understand how they work. (look up your nose)

That said, the power and mileage gains really are minimal, if you get any. My personal experience has been a tiny increase in the low end.
On our 2.0 4 CR-V, we gained about 1 mpg. On the CX9, we get better mileage than other CX9 owners, but we also have no options other than the roof rack and hitch.

The real advantage is that you're not throwing away a filter every 5k - 10k, and as they get dirty, oiled filters continue to perform well, where a paper filter's performance decreases with every mile.

As for where to buy, just look anywhere they are sold, and buy from the cheapest reliable seller. I think I bought mine locally.

I am kind of a noob at this stuff. How do you clean the K&N filters? Do they sell some kinds of cleaning agent to do that? And do you need to put oil on it...
